Vicente Tofiño de San Miguel
He studied experimental physics and joined the army, from which he came out.
In 1755 he was called by Jorge Juan, as a master of mathematics at the Marine Guard Academy of Cadiz, allowing him, in turn, to pass to the Navy as a ship ensign.
-In 1768 he will be appointed director of it and in 1773, simultaneously, also director of the Academies of Ferrol and Cartagena.
- He participated in the expedition against Algiers (1775) and on the site of Gibraltar (1782), ascending in 1784 to brigadier of the Navy and, in 1789, to the head of Escuadra.
-He made the initial project of the building and worked at the Royal Observatory of the Marine Guards Company, publishing observations with great scientific solvency, such as the observation of the passage of Venus through the Sun, taking advantage of an eclipse on June 3, 1796.
