New Zealand points to SailGP with medallists Burling and Tuke of captains

Burling and Tuke have been a team since 2008 and have so far won two Olympic medals and six world titles in the 49er class. They were jointly named "World Sailor of the Year" in 2015. In addition, Burling again won the title with only 26 years, following the 2017 American Cup victory of the Emirates Team New Zealand. The duo will look for his second American Cup title in March in Auckland, before aspiring to the top of the podium at the Tokyo Olympic Games
The Olympic medalists and current American Cup champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke will join SailGP in this second season of the league as part of the newly formed New Zealand team. Both will co-lead the team that will start to compete in April 2021, in the first major prize of the season in San Francisco.
Founded in 2018, SailGP brings together national teams that compete in the world's most iconic cities. The coastal races are carried out in flying catamarans, the F50, chosen "World Sailing Boat of the Year" after setting the speed record in 2019.
The team will be supported by Live Ocean Racing, a conduit between the beneficial conservation organization of the Live Ocean of the duo and its sailing projects. Live Ocean Racing will have SailGP as a platform to raise awareness of the foundation's objectives: to protect and restore the oceans, in line with SailGP's sustainability approach and clean energy solutions.
The couple remains fully committed to their goals of defending the American Cup champion title with Emirates Team New Zealand and of getting another Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games.
The events of the second season of SailGP were postponed due to the Covid-19, and will be relaunched in San Francisco and New York in April and June 2021... after the American stage of the championship, the events of the great prize will be held in European cities represented by the teams: United Kingdom, Denmark, France and Spain... the league plans to hold between 7 and 9 events in its second season and will have races in the Australia and New Zealand region in early 2022.
