The Baltic 56 "Bionic Elk" armed by José Quintero of the Club de Mar San Amaro de La Coruña, is proclaimed on the afternoon of Saturday, the absolute winner of the Trophy Mar de Maeloc Finisterre that has been held between the two main Galician cities, with the organization of the real clubs of La Coruña and Vigo. The largest race of those held in the north and north-west of Spain, with a total of 120 miles, was held for the third time in what goes from century to about twenty years without programming. This race was created in 1966 as a link of the northern and southern races of Galicia, and now immersed in Mar de Maeloc, it refulfilled its founding legacy.

Meteological predictions spoke of winds from the north with a speed around the ten knots... and the truth is that much of the tour was so... except with two exceptions: the paron on the afternoon of Friday through the Exterior Port of La Coruña and the one that happened at dawn when the fleet was already in the northern area of the Rías Baixas... the truth for not a few ships the down from Sálvora to Vigo, was a real calvary.

Who came out of this paron in full pontevedresas waters, was the gigate "Bionic Elk," as he managed to escape from the burning by putting water in between with his rivals... to the point that he reached the line of arrival installed in front of the Sports Port of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo shortly after eight in the morning... with a chrono of 15,37.15, which carried an average of more than 7 knots.

At that time, the pursuit group was in the waters of the Ons archipelago, and also with little wind. The second to arrive in real time was "Bosch Service Solutions" from the Canido Maritime Club with the great Chuny Bermudez to the cane (with which your son sailed) at no less than five hours... at 04.43.18!... the victory of the spectacular ship of Quintero was a fact.

The third to get to Vigo was the "Eleko-Mambo" of Carlos Sampedro Curbera... the Hanse 400 of the Club Marítimo La Penela, which was in almost 21 minutes, the "Bodegas Benito Santos" the J108 that patrona Jorge Echevarrí, and which had been the best boat in the first 40 miles of the race in union of Chuny Bermuez.

But the great surprise was to come, because after the favorites, also favored by the retreats of ships such as the Coruñeses "Mascato" and "Cocaco," the ferrollano "Golfiño" by José Naya or the giant of the Royal Nautical Club of Portosín, the 65 feet of Astrid Arenas that had to enter San Vicente do Mar... the "Atlantic 3D Printing" patronado by Guillermo Blanco managed to unblock several of the favorites, making himself the second absolute square, being overcome only by "Bionic Elk."

Good edition of the Finisterre Trophy of the hand of Mar de Maeloc, second act of this great project of the Galician sailing cruise... the third delivery for next week, with a real strong dish: the Regata Mar de Maeloc Rías Baixas that announces a great participation, of the order of the 70 ships, being the headquarters amen of Vigo, Commud and A Pobra do Caramiñal.

The spectacular Baltic 56 "Bionic Elk" armed by José Angel Quintero of the fleet of the Club de Mar San Amaro de La Coruña, appears at the front of the fleet that started at 5: 00 p.m. Friday from the very Herculin maritime center, opposite the famous Cantones: the Finisterre Trophy.

It is the height competition with its 120 miles of the Mar de Maeloc Regatas that organize the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña and that of Vigo, which is the second act in the series of the most classic cruise races of Galicia, which will end next Saturday with the completion of the Rías Baixas Regata.

Winds of 10 knots from the north, which arrived at 12 at the time, accompanied the fleet in the first steps. The exit was of great plastic beauty, because to the very surroundings of the old known as the "City of Crystal," the colour of the fleet's spinnakers was added.

The giant "Bionic Elk" which is the second boat in length, after the Vallicelli 65 of Asteria Arenas of the Real Cub Núutico de Portosin, took over. The J108 of Jorge Eschverría "Bodegas Benito Santos" was located on the boat of José Angel Quintero, which he had to employ in depth to overcome first the J80 "Impression 3D Atlántica" of Guillermo Blanco and the "Bastiagueiro" of José Ramón Galdo, both of the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña... and then to approach the "Bosch Service Solutions" that patronizes Chuny Bermudez de Castro and that competes for the Vigués club of the Club Marítimo de Canido.

The "Eleko-Mambo" was left behind in those early moments with the vigués Carlos Sampedro to the cane and the coruñés Cándido Losada in the bathtub... the reason for the problems with his maneuver. Very good way out of the "Mascato" of Enrique Vilariño, which follows in a great way... as well as the "Cacaco" of Caco Vilariño.

Further back, but gradually going back to the main boat of the fleet, the "Good Wine Tinto" that continued to take high speed, based on its length and vile surface.

At the edge of seven in the afternoon, the head of the race was still in the hands of "Bionick Elk," who had managed to leave the low wind area, sailing north like the rest of the fleet. He was sailing at about seven knots of speed when he was across Cape Cognadoiro just over four miles north.

After the Coruñés ship, the "Bodegas Benito Santos" was located at a speed of 4 knots... very close to it "Bosch Service Soltutions" of Chuny Bermudez with more speed at 5.5; the fourth was the "Eleko-Mambo" at 3.3 and finally it was very standing without just advancing the 65 foot of Portosón... which sailed very close to the actual fleet tail, in which also were the J80 of Guillermo Blanco and José Ramón Galdo.

With these data, and the foreseeable late-morning braking as far as the wind is concerned, the participating ships must begin to reach the facilities of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo along the morning of Saturday. For the time being, the real domain of "Bionic Elk" and the "Bosch Service Solutions."

At the edge of the five of the afternoon of Friday begins in the middle of the Coruñés port... in front of Los Cantones and very close to the Centenario Pier which is the longest race of those held in the waters of the north and north-west of Spain: the Finisterre Trophy, one of the most classic with its 120 nautical miles and which is the second act of Mar de Maeloc, which organize the real nautical clubs of La Coruña and Vigo. And that has as its main objective, to cover the space exclusively as a high crossing in Galician waters and on the other hand to be the link of the Rías Altas and Rías Baixas races.

There is a successful Rías Altas, which, despite the complicated year we are living, improved the records of 2019... and in this line is also the Finisterre, as the number of participants of the last edition will be exceeded, and what is better with great quality.

It will also be accompanied by a good meteological part, which speaks of winds from the north of 10 to 15 knots... the problem will be to pass Sisargas in front of Malpica 20 miles from the exit and 100 miles from the arrival... if this is done before entering the night, the fleet must reach Vigo in the early hours of the morning... An average of 8 knots would be considered good; and in this case we would talk about about 15 hours for the fastest ships. The arrival will be installed in front of the facilities of the Puerto Deportivo of the Real Club Nautico de Vigo.

Two large-length ships, among which they will be heading for the legendary Finisterre that marks the equator of the test, in his hand is breaking the expected average up: the largest one "Vallicelli" 65 based in the Royal Nautical Club of Portosin and that weapon Astid Arenas, with the suggestive name of "Good Wine Tinto..." the other "only 56 feet" the spectacular and fast Baltic 56 by José Angel Quintero that competes for the Club of Sea of San Amaro of La Coruña: the "Bionik."

Our most international ocean sailing height pattern is not missing: the Herculino Chuny Bermudez de Castro who will make the A2 race with his son, in the "Bosch Service Solutions" of the Maritimo Club of Canido Vigués.

Other ships entering the quinielas will be the J108 "Bodegas Benito Santos" based in Vilagarcía de Arousa, which has Jorge Etcheverría as its cane and competes for the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, which will include Willy Blanco as its crew in the "Zospiro" or the "Mascato" Héctor Guimaraens.

Also among the favorites, the Hanse 400 "Eleko Mambo" of the Club Marítimo La Penela that has as its patron Carlos Sampedro, one of the best patterns that has given in recent years the Monte Real Club of Yates of Baiona... or the "Piko Norte" of the Club Náutico de Boiro that patronea José Manuel Castro, a Bavaria 32 very fast.

The Finisterre... the legendary race from La Coruña to Vigo

The Finisterre Trophy was born in 1966, two years after the creation of the Rías Baixas Regata, being the winner of Antonio Pastor's Atalante; The Clareé of Antoine Jeantin won in 1967. In the painting of Honour... Mascato, Ana III, Forza Catro, Ardora, Xeito, Ardora, Alcaravan III, Marensu IV, Lanzal, Easy Boys 2, Salseiro, Bombay Gin... the one who has most often won it... Javier de la Gandara (1988 Easy Boys 2, 1992 Bombay Gin and 1998 Portos de Galicia)... being the winner of the old era of this classic the Galicia Star of Antonio Viejo, in 2000. Mar de Maeloc managed to recover it after 20 years in the trunk of memories... with an edition that his greatest merit was that the Finisterre was held... the victory in compensation was for the Gomez Mostly of the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña, and in real for the giant Fresgarrido de Quintero.
