The proposal must now be endorsed by the Commission delegated to the federal institution.

The Board of Directors of the Spanish Federation of Piragüismo has today unanimously agreed to suspend the entire national competition of 2020, which means the abolition of the 16 tests that it had reprogrammed from August 22, thus taking a decision of responsibility for the current health situation due to the Covit-19.

The Spanish discards the celebration of the 16 national citations in the calendar, the first two on 22 and 23 August when the Spanish Cup of Júnior de Esprint was to be held in Verducido (Pontevedra) and the Spanish Championship of Eslalon, in Sort (Lleida).

The decision of the Board of Directors, adopted unanimously by the 15 members attending, is in line with the commitment of the "not taking unnecessary risks" and awareness of the state of uncertainty about the coronavirus pandemic.

The governing body regrets the problems that this exceptional measure causes and recognizes the difficulties that the lack of competition will bring to athletes, technicians, clubs and autonomous federations, especially because of the inability to prove results.

In view of the lack of competitions q reflect the sports level q present the athletes, the Spanish Federation of Piragüismo maintains the call to hold the performance controls, planned in esprint from 4 to 6 September and in slalon on the last weekend of that month.

The decision to suspend the whole of the national competition 2020 takes place on the day when Spanish pyragüism celebrates the 44th anniversary of the achievement of its first Olympic medal, achieved on July 31, 1976 in Montreal by the K4 composed of Herminio Menéndez, José María Esteban Celorrio, José Ramón López Diaz-Flor and Luis Gregorio Ramos Missioné.

The news has fallen as a bomb in much of the autonomous federations... which do not understand why the state federations are precipitating... and warn that the activity and the autonomous competitions will not be paralyzed... unless the health authorities consider it appropriate. As for the elite clubs of Spanish Pyragüism that are a group of 17... no less than 15 are radically against the position of Spanish!
