The organizers of The Ocean Race have confirmed that the next edition of the ocean race will begin in Alicante in October 2022 and will conclude in Genoa, Italy, in the summer of 2023, the date that coincides with the 50th anniversary of the history of The Ocean Race.

For the first time in its almost half century of history, the following editions are ratified over the next ten years and a feasibility study on a race in Europe is currently being carried out next summer.

The change of the date of departure of the next edition of the return to the world comes after a strategic process of planning and consultation with the parties involved in the event, in order to determine the best path in a sports landscape impacted by the COVID-19.

As planned, teams of the VO65 and IMOCA60 classes will participate in the next edition of The Ocean Race.

The sustainability program, awarded with various awards and one of the fundamental pillars of The Ocean Race, will continue and grow under the slogan 'Competence for a purpose'. The Ocean Race Summits, as well as education and science programmes, are intensified and integrated into all facets of the organization of the race.

The previously announced host cities and sponsors will continue to be involved in the next edition of 2022-23. Volvo Cars, Premier Partner of The Ocean Race, offered his unconditional support.

The process until these conclusions and changes are reached takes place after a period of consultation with the parties involved.

The next three editions of The Ocean Race will be sailed around the world by teams and will take place in 2022-23, 2026-27 and 2030-31.

Among these editions will be scheduled more competition and the organizers study, together with the registered teams and the other parties involved, the feasibility to organize an event in Europe in the summer of 2021 for the IMOCA60 and VO65 classes, and potentially open to other classes of fast ships.

For the ten international headquarters cities of The Ocean Race, the new calendar offers confirmation and clarity for the future.

The mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, declared that to be the seat of the final in 2023 will be beneficial to the city based in Italy, which will reach The Ocean Race for the first time.

The Ocean Race remains committed to its legacy as the main ocean race by teams of the sports calendar. The new dates, along with other improvements for the next edition of the race, will ensure that the event has a sustainable future inside and outside the water.
