Mar de Maeloc returns to the scene, as a great project that unites through the work and the empowerment of its main events, the two large Galician nautical clubs: the Royal Nautical Club of La Coruña and the Real Nautical Club of Vigo. The joint offer really incomparable, with ten days of cruise navigation on one of the most beautiful coasts of the old continent: Regata Rías Altas (1974), Trofeo Finisterre (1966) and Regata Rías Baixas (1964).
The official presentation was held at noon in the halls of the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, with the assistance of the Herculino comandoro Jorge Etcheverría, the Viguese president José Antonio Portela, the cultural councilman of La Coruña Jesús Celemín, Noa Pérez representing Custom Drinks and Manuel Pedro Seoane as the maximum responsible for Mar de Maeloc. The two sailing delegates were also present: Guillermo Blanco for La Coruña and the great regatist Gonzalo Araújo for Vigo, as well as the two directors of the events: Chuco Pérez Lapuente, who is the director of the Rías Altas and Finisterre, and Manu Millán del Rías Baixas.
The seaport of Mar de Maeloc 2020, is a splendid representation of the main of the Galician coast: Malpica, Sada, Cedeira, La Coruña, Vigo, Commud and A Pobra do Caramiñal. The dates 30 July to 2 August the "Rías Altas," 7 and 8 August the "Finisterre" and 12 to 15 August the "Rías Baixas."
It will be in the cases of the stages of the races mentioned four days of competition, plus a previous of controls and inspections, and two in the long race that links the Galician north (La Coruña) with the south (Vigo) and a distance of 120 nautical miles, which was born precisely with the objective of joining the "Rías..." this was the great novelty of 2019 after many years of the Finisterre in the trunk of the memories.
It should be noted that Mar de Maeloc, is a project in which the sustainability of the marine environment is essential... in all the development of the races has been bet on the recycled materials... the T-shirts with which the participants are made of cotton from essentially plastic bottles, rescued from the seas... the materials used from the stationery to the flags of the ships have been made of recyclable materials.
This year as another contribution to sustainability... for the manufacture of the trophies, wood from old pallets used in its stores by Maeloc has been used, and the plates have been made from recycled aluminium from recovered beverage packaging.
Ecoembes, for its part, will install in several ports of the Maeloc Sea, its system of selective collection of waste.
The two clubs that carry the organizational tasks have decided to create the Great Sea Trophy of Maeloc, which will reward the ship of the most competitive categories that will achieve global victory, as a Circuit of the three races.
An artisan cider press built on a scale by Coruñese artisans will be the piece that rewards the absolute winner. This great trophy will be deposited in the Club de La Coruña until the next edition, if the winner was from a boat belonging to a club based north of Cape Finisterre and in that of Vigo, if he was from one of the south of this historic marine promontory.
Length of the Regatas Mar de Maeloc in La Coruña, with the three legendary citations of Galicia, in which they will participate from the order of the 90 ships, with special incidence in the Regata Rías Baixas, which will again add to the quality of the fleet, the amount... in a year difficult by the situation generated by the covid-19, which has caused the organizers to take measures ordered by the health authorities, which will obviously bring some inconvenience to the participants, but which are strictly necessary to apply, in addition to their compliance.
