Naviera Armas Transmediterráneo has renamed the ship José M. Entrecanas, one of the largest rolls of the Spanish merchant Marina, such as Villa de Tazacorte, in homage to the villa and port of Tazacorte, located in the Valley of Aridane. It is a region of extraordinary silver production on the island of La Palma, of which the shipping company is its main guarantor in the export to the peninsular markets.
The new Villa de Tazacorte is the largest cargo capacity of the Spanish merchant fleet, with 3,500 linear meters of rolling load and sufficient connections for the number of cold trailers that each week make possible the boarding to the port of Cadiz of just over 100 units.
Built at the Navantia shipyard in Puerto Real (Cadiz), it entered into service in June 2010 and is a ship of 29,998 gross tons and 10,140 tons of dead weight, being its main dimensions 209.43 meters of total length, 26.50 meters of manga and 7.10 meters of maximum calado. It is powered by four MAN B & W 9L48 / 60 engines, with a power of 43,600 kW on two axes, which allows it to speed 26 knots, which also places it among the fastest and most versatile in its class.
