The Piueiro Association was born just three years ago in the pontevedresa marinera village of A Guardia, the former Ostium Mini, which as its Latin name indicated was at the Miño gate off the Lusitana coast.

For these fans the memory of the past tells them why we are who we are and why we get to where we are... without it we would be nothing... believe that united will be stronger to recover the naval heritage... and put it in value.

A people has to find out their history... they have to recover their common memory, composed of memories, stories, traditions, beliefs and trades. This memory is of all and is of all and is essential to be able to face the future are solvency.

Last summer, A Guarda organized the tenth edition of the Galicia Meeting of Traditional Embarkations... considered one of the most important manifestations of maritime culture at national and European level, not only because of the number of ships involved, from different parts of Europe, but also because of what it represents in the recovery of maritime heritage and traditions.

The aim of Piueiro was to get that event, in the sea of Galicia, to project the silhouette of the ship which, together with the gamela, was the most representative of the marine people of Galicia... the "Volanteiro..." and the dream was achieved...

The Cultural Association of Traditional Barches Piueiro was created in October 2017, and from the beginning it has the participation of associations and individuals... its area of action is the municipality of A Guarda, maintaining a fraternal relationship with the other municipalities of the Galician region Baixo Miño and the Portuguese Alto Minho. It feeds on the personal level of many amateurs, and of various institutions and companies... that provide the necessary resources.
