Feeling of Piragüismo International: Discards more classifying for Tokyo

The International Olympic Committee reiterated this week its commitment to organize this year's Olympics, expressed its support for sports such as piragüism, which still has Olympic quotas to cover.
The International Federation of Piragüism dismisses the holding of the remaining competitions to award 15 per cent of the remaining places to participate in the Tokyo Games, and will propose as an alternative to the International Olympic Committee to use the existing slalon ranking and the World 2019 esprint, following the situation created by the coronavirus pandemic.
The world federal entity has announced that all its international competitions scheduled between now and the end of May will be postponed or cancelled due to current concerns about COVID19.
On April 1, the ICF will forward its statement on the system that will determine the allocation of the remaining places to compete in the Nipone event, on which European and Asian leaders have been in favour of giving priority to the classification obtained in the 2019 World Cup while the Americans have defended that option or the results of the Pan American Games.
For its part, Africa and Oceania have closed the classification process for Tokyo in both specialties.
The world Olympic esprint and paracanoe classifications planned in the German city of Duisburg cannot be held from 21 to 24 May.
