So, waiting to know how events will happen and to know with certainty whether or not the Olympic Games will be fought, both regatists will continue to be confined and trained in their homes, waiting to continue to fight for their dreams
After the suspension of the 51st edition of the SAR Princess Sofia Trophy, many regatists have been expected to know what will happen to their options to get a place for the next Olympic Games.
Although the priority now is the health and well-being of the population, doubts and concerns are growing among the regatists. A situation that are living well close by Sergi Scandinell and Joan Carles Cardona, regatists of the Nàutic S'Arenal Club in the Olympic class RS: X.
"The current situation in Spain by COVID- 19 is a matter of concern, so I consider that our obligation is to stay at home and leave only in cases of need, avoiding agglomerations and following hygiene patterns to avoid increasing the number of contagies. The sooner we become aware of our social responsibility in this circumstance, the sooner we can get out of it. The most important thing is to keep calm, to listen to the authorities not to collapse health services and thus to facilitate work for doctors and nurses," explains Sergi Scandinell from his home in Formentera.
But despite being responsible for the current situation, as many other regatists are concerned about their sports situation. "I find myself in a situation of instability and concern. The state of alarm has caught us from the full selective process that decides who will represent our country in the Olympics. We do not know what will happen from now on; if only the last championship will be valued, if it will be extended pending a new competition and, mainly, if the Olympic Games will be held or postponed", says the windsurfer.
He also adds that "the intention is to continue training, as as a sportsman I cannot afford to lose the physical form, yes, always maintaining the State's recommendations to train at home. It will be key to maintain a positive attitude in these days of confinement with a lot of psychological work."
It should be recalled that the selective process for the next Tokyo Olympic Games began last February in Australia, where Sergi Scandinell was classified as the best regatist of the silver fleet of the championship with very good partials. Previously, in the last world 2019 held in Lake Garda, Italy, the windsurfer was positioned as the best Spanish regatist occupying the seventeenth position... for its part, Joan Carles Cardona, finished as the first Spanish in the world of Australia last February, winning the first selection race for the Tokyo 2020 JJOO.
