The Andalusian Olympic Week comes to its tenth edition and is twenty years old since its birth as Carnival Trophy and it does so on top of it, bringing together a total of 323 regatists from a total of 20 countries... the competition from today to next Sunday.
That is why the Spanish army in the middle of Laser Radial, with the defenders of the titles at the head of the quineas, among them the Andalusian Ana Moncada (independent), is coming. Nor will the Catalans Cristina Pujol and Ricard Castellví or the Canaria Carlota Sánchez, among many others, fail to exceed the 100 lasers in liza.
In class RS: X the absence of the heavy weights to which the Gaditan race has coincided with the World Championship that is disputed in Australian waters, is offset by the participation of a wide range of young people who will have the opportunity to measure themselves with windsurfers from other countries on a unique occasion to continue growing, case of the Andalusian Aurelio Terry (CN Sevilla) who is also called to defend title.
The race also puts into play the cups of Andalusia of the classes Laser Standard, Laser 4.7 and Techno Sub 17 and the championship of Andalusia in the case of the crews of 420. As guests the trophy is opened to the Techno Plus disciplines (up to 19 years) and Open Foil, an already essential modality in all calls after being known that will replace RS: X at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
Among the candidates for the title in the class Laser Standard all the looks are put in the onubense and current champion of Spain and Andalusia Guillermo Flores (CN Rio Piedras / Dr. Frontela Sailing Team), recently arrived from Australia after an intense start of the season and immersed in its preparation for the Genoa World Cup in April.
In this class, Andalusian and Cantabrian athletes join, among others, Polish, Ukrainian, Venezuelan and Belarusian athletes. In 4.7 and the double class 420, the hosts copy the registration in front of some member of the Belgian delegation among the former, and the same is true of the Techno Plus and Techno Sub 17 class, where the Spanish are practically all home although in this case they join windsurfers from neighbouring Portugal, Russians, Poles, Hungarians and New Zealanders, among others.
