Estanislao Durán was the president of the Royal Nautico Club and Mauro Alonso Mayor of Vigo (maternal grandfather of Javier de la Gandara), when in the summer of 1927 the Cup of the King of Vela was held, which since its creation in 1905 in the Maritime of the Abra vizcañno had not left those waters. Vigo was breaking in with unusual strength in the high competition sailing races, when the sailing was the work of six clubs: Barcelona, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Santander, Gijón and Vigo.
