We are in 1960 when I was mayor of Benalmádena Enrique Bolín. As a visionary he was, he proposed the realization of an infrastructure that would allow the City to offer quality tourist attractions while enhancing the historical relationship of this municipality with the sea. Initially the idea of building the Sports Port was received with some unbelief because of the innovative and great idea although the municipal thrust managed to overcome the obstacles that were appearing and little by little, and without a few vicissitudes, it was achieved, the construction of what is today one of the most attractive sports, leisure and recreation environments of the Costa del Sol in particular, and of the Western Mediterranean as a whole.

The Port Deportivo de Benalmádena is located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, in a privileged area 8 Km from the International Airport of Malaga-Pablo Ruiz Picasso, with daily connections to the main Spanish and European cities, and from there by modern motorways, you can reach the Port in 15 minutes. Which allows any European citizen to be sailing at least three hours from home.

The Sports Port is born as an administrative concession granted by the Ministry of Public Works and Urbanism to His Excellency The town of Benalmádena, by agreement of the Council of Ministers, for the construction and operation of a marina of base or inverted on the beach of Fuente de la Salud. The works began on 12 November 1972, which, after various stages of construction, ended with its inauguration on 9 October 1982. Since its inception, the Port has been headed by the City Council, but in order to improve and speed up its management, a Municipal Anonymous Society was created in July 1996. The European Union, through the A.D.E.A.C., has granted the Benalmádena Sports Port the Blue flag of the Clean Seas of Europe thanks to the quality of services and their waters. This international award has been obtained every year, continuously, since 1987. It has also been distinguished on two occasions (1995 and 1997) as the "Best Navy of the World," a prize awarded by specialized journals on an international basis.

The Benalmádena Sports Port has in its facilities more than 1000 points of mooring, for boats from 6 to 35 meters long. In its construction, regardless of docks, dikes..., the sea was won 40,000 square meters, which are the basis of what is now its commercial and residential area.

The quality of the services and the beauty of its facilities make the Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, a true paradise in the heart of Costa del Sol.
