The German Carl Krause has proclaimed himself the absolute champion of the 31 Palamós Optimist Trophy-15 Nations Cup that has been held from 13 to 16 February in the waters of the Bay of Palamós. Germany has been the winner of the United Nations Cup. The Israeli Maayan Shemesh has been a female champion.

Krause has won the four trials he has disputed, and although it has finally been worth only three - the fourth is not accounted for by not having competed all the groups - the German goes undefeated from Palamós. The second position has been shared between the Marc Mesquida (CN S'Arenal) and the German Caspar Ilgenstein, which have finished with 5 points and the same posts and order in the three sleeves (2-1-2). So the third square has been for the Alex Demurtras.

This is the second time that a German regatist won the Palamós Optimist Trophy, after it was done in 2015 by Deike Bornemann... the great favorites such as the German Leon Jost, fifth and the Israeli Maayan Shemesh, seventh; they have stayed at the podium gates at one, two and three points respectively.

The top 20 of 559 participants have also classified the gerundense Izan Codinachs (CN Sant Feliu de Guíxols) in position 9 and the Valencian Mateo Cardoner (RCN Valencia) in 11.

The Martinet Prize, to the best regatist of the CN Costa Brava / Vela Palamós, has been for Antoine Oganesov.

15 / 02 / 2020: Luky Serrano is forced to cancel the optimist races in Palamós due to lack of wind

The weather forecast for this Sunday is that at 9: 00 a.m. the south-west wind of 15 knots will blow and it is expected to rise from noon to 25 knots (Photo Alfred Farré)

In the penultimate day of the 31 Palamós Optimist Trophy could not be held any tests after the low clouds that have prevented the wind from entering.

At noon the Regatas Committee has sent the fleet to the water as they blew 4 knots from the south, but very unstable to the down and after an attempt to exit, finally the low intensity of the wind has caused that after 4: 00 in the afternoon and in view of the fact that the situation would not improve, the day has been considered to be over.

This has led the regatta management, with Carlos Palomares at the front, and the president of the Regatas Committee, Rafael 'Lucky' Serrano, and after consulting the weather forecasts they have decided to quote the regatists at 7.45 in the morning in the Village located on the Great Plateau of Palamós and that the signal of attention in the water, that is to say the beginning of the tests is at 9 in the morning so that the four groups that remain to complete the fourth manga so have the five complete groups.

With all this, the classification remains the same with the German Carl Krause with 3 points, followed by his compatriot Caspar Ilgenstein and the Majorcan Marc Mequida (CN S'Arenal).

The German Carl Krause holds on as leader of the thirty-first edition of the Palamós Optimist Trophy-Nations Cup after the conclusion of the second day of competition, in which he could only compete the yellow group due to the low intensity of the wind, in which he has barely exceeded the six knots at some point in the afternoon.

Krause, who sails in the yellow group, won again and remains undefeated in Palamós, after winning the three sleeves played on Thursday and, if necessary, one on Friday. The Swedish Erik Bengtsson and Simon Hardner... followed him in order of arrival... and the top ten of this manga entered the Valencian of Tomás and the Baleares Fernando Barceló (CN S'Arenal) and José Luis Miró (RCN Palma).

In this group only 71 of the 112 ships were completed, because 41 ships left prematurely and as a black flag exit they were automatically disqualified in this test.

In other groups they had an exit, but the wind was falling below the six knots, so the Regatas Committee chose to cancel the test and send the fleet to the ground, after the weather forecasts were no better.

This means that until the white, green, red and blue groups complete the fourth sleeve, the general classification will not be updated. On Saturday day the first to leave will be these groups and once the fourth test has been completed a discard will come into play and will continue to do qualifying tests. If they are completed Sunday will be the day the finals are held.

Meanwhile the general with three tests is left with Carl Krause leader with 3 points, second is the German also Capar Ilgenstein and third is the Marc Mesquida mallorcan of the Nàutic S'Arenal Club.

The German Carl Krause has started hard by imposing his law on the 31 Palamós Optimist Trophy and alone leads the fleet of 559 ships after the first day of race... he is followed to two points by also German Caspar Ilgenstein and third is the Marc Mesquida to five.

The German soon left his mark on Palamós after adding three first posts. The RSC92 regatist, integrated into the yellow group, has been the only one in the entire fleet to finish undefeated the day. His compatriot Leon Jost, who won two sleeves in the white group, was also about to do so, but a seventh place in the inaugural test provisionally placed him in the sixth position.

Another German, Caspar Ingenstein, who occupies the second place in general also maintained a great regularity in the blue group when closing the day with a first and two seconds. The Majorcan Marc Mequida (CN S'Arenal) has shown why it is the best Spanish in Palamós and its position in the national ranking. Mesquida occupies the third podium square after adding a first, a fourth and a second.

In the top ten is also the Catalan Izan Codinachs (CN Sant Feliu de Guíxols) in ninth position after performing two seconds and a seventh in the Krause group.

The first day of the 31 Palamós Optimist Trophy-Nations Cup has been complete with the celebration of fifteen tests, three for each of the five groups each consisting of 112 ships each.
