The extension, which will be in force from 1 April 2020, maintains the current contract, lasting from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2020

The Ministry of Development, through the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy, has extended the contract that covers the maritime lines subject to the Public Service Obligation for TransMediterranean and that connects Cadiz with the Canary Islands. The extension of this contract will be for two years, that is to say, until 31 March 2022, and it has a financial envelope of EUR 2 million per year.

At present, Trasmediterana makes a weekly connection with departure every Tuesday from the port of Cadiz and scales in Arrecife de Lanzarote, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santa Cruz de La Palma; and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and Arrecife de Lanzarote on the return trip.

The City of Palma is a Visentini ferry with capacity for 877 passengers - of them, 476 in cabins -, 2,255 linear meters of rolling load and 180 cars. It maintains a service speed of 23 knots, powered by two MAN engines that add a power of 26,000 horses and has services of bar-cafe and food lounge, shop, television, lounge and access for passage by mechanized stairs.

Shipping TransMediterranean Arms completes its supply of cargo on the line Cadiz- Canarias with two other ships. From Cadiz there are departures on Saturdays at noon to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de La Palma, which serves the ship José M. Entrecanas, which is the largest roll of the Spanish merchant fleet.
