“Para mí es un gran placer confirmar que The Ocean Race regresará a Auckland en 2021-22", afirma Richard Brisius, presidente de The Ocean Race

"It is a great pleasure for me to confirm that The Ocean Race will return to Auckland in 2021-22 ″," says Richard Brisius, President of The Ocean Race

The Ocean Race will arrive in Auckland (New Zealand) during the 2021-22 edition of the sailing world... as The Ocean Race approaches its 50th anniversary, the race has confirmed its return to New Zealand for the 12th time. In all the previous editions but one, Auckland, the city of the candles, was chosen to make the stop.

The Kiwis regatists have long been protagonists in the history of the races in this remote part of the world and this time will be no exception. Bianca Cook, who competed in the last edition of The Ocean Race on board the Turn the Tide on Plastic, leads a VO65 class campaign for the 2021-22 edition.

The 2021-22 edition of The Ocean Race will have two kinds of boats: the innovative IMOCA 60 class, with foils, and the VO65 monotypes, which starred in a very equal competition in the last race.

The 2021-22 edition

The Ocean Race will leave Alicante (Spain) in the fourth quarter of 2021 and will end in Genoa (Italy) in June 2022. The complete route of the race will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Cape Town joins Itajai (Brazil), Aarhus (Denmark) and The Hague (Netherlands) as confirmed headquarters, along with Cape Verde, which will be the first stop in West Africa in the history of the race.
