The Real Club Náutico de Palma has been the stage chosen by the class RC44 to end and finish its 2019 season. A total of nine teams, from six countries, participated between Thursday 14 and Sunday 18 in Mallorca in which it has been the fifth, and last, test of its circuit, the 44Cup.The winner, both of the event in Palma and of the general classification of the circuit, has been Team CEEREF.
This has been the first time the class competed in the Bay of Palma. RCNP's sports coordinator, Mau Fraga, says that "both shipowners and sportsmen have enjoyed sailing in Mallorca and have been very comfortable at the Club." The RC44 have been "satisfied" with the dispute of one of their events in Palma and "do not rule out return," Fraga says.
The last day of competition, held today Sunday 17, consisted of three sleeves in which the wind blew with force, more than 20 knots. In total, and after four days of competition, the RC44 completed eight tests in Mallorca.
The title of champion of the 44Cup of the RCNP had two favorites from the first day: the Slovenian team CEEREF, of Igor Lah, and the monegasque Charisma, of Nico Poons. At the end of the competition both ships tied to 27 points but the balance declined in favor of the CEEREF thanks to the fact that it had a better partial (it added four first in eight tests by three of the Charisma). In the third drawer of the podium, with 36 points was the Swedish Artemis Racing.
The victory in Mallorca also confirmed CEEREF as the best RC44 team this season. In the annual ranking, the Slovenian ship won the first place, leading to the British Aqua, second and Russian Nika, third.
