The lazy, light and hollow wind has been the great protagonist of the Athens International Sailing Week, in which until the last day it has been marked by a lack of wind, to the point of leaving the Finn class and the Spanish Joan Cardona and Alex Muscat without Medal Race.

Without a race since Thursday, Cardona and Muscat have not had a chance to improve their positions, closing the week at five and nine, respectively, in a classification led by the Hungarian Zsombor Berecz.

In the Hellenic Sea, the Spanish de Vela places two regatists in the top ten of Finn

The International Week of Athens comes to an end tomorrow with the two regatists of the Spanish pre-Olympic team, Joan Cardona and Alex Muscat, at the Medal Race, shows the optimization of their results within the intense training program they are carrying out with their new coach, Diego Fructuoso.

The conditions have not been accompanied in the waters of Athens, where two of the five days of competition have been left blank due to lack of wind. Of the remaining three days, there was only one in which the wind reached up to 10 knots, on the rest of the time being the right one to fight the races.

In view of the last race, with a double score, the menorquín Joan Cardona of the Royal Nautical Club of Palma has the possibilities to reach the podium, as after the leader Zsombor Berecz (Hungary), a group of four regatists are in a margin of five points, including Joan Cardona, fifth in the provisional classification after the six sleeves disputed.

The Catalan Alex Muscat of the Garraf Nautico is located in the ninth square, after a championship in which his best position has been a fifth place.

14 / 11 / 2019: Spain to the Finn Medal Race in Athens is located with Muscat and Cardona in the top ten

El viento volvió tímidamente a las aguas de Atenas y permitió celebrar dos pruebas para la clase Finn, tras las que Joan Cardona ocupa la cuarta posición provisional

The wind timidly returned to the waters of Athens and allowed for two tests for the Finn class, after which Joan Cardona occupies the fourth provisional position.

The wind continues to beg for the Week of Athens and, although not reaching the end of yesterday, the fourth day has started again with postponement.

Under wind-limits, the Finn fleet has been able to fight two sleeves by shirking the fall of the sun at the end, tests after which the Menorcan Joan Cardona (RCN Palma) recognizes not having had a good day, but keeps the moral high to continue in the fight, both for tomorrow's day and for the Saturday's Medal Race.

In the provisional classification after five disputed tests, the Hungarian Zsombor Nerecz maintains the first position, followed by the Greek Ionnis Mitaris who has also defended his square. The Czech Ondrej Teach enters the podium followed by Cardona with three points of difference between the two.

With a similar part in which the conditions of low wind are maintained, tomorrow the fleet races will end by giving the pass to the Medal Race to the top 10 classified, a group in which the two Spanish regatists are located so far.

13 / 11 / 2019: White day for the International Sailing Week in Athens

La lluvia y la falta de viento impiden la celebración de las pruebas previstas para hoy en la Semana Internacional de Atenas

The rain and the lack of wind prevent the holding of the tests scheduled for today in Athens International Week

The wind remains unallied with the International Week of Athens to develop the program as planned, to the extent that Wednesday has been impossible to navigate for the Finn class fleet, in which members of the Spanish pre-Olympic team Joan Cardona of the Real Club Nautico de Palma and Alex Muscat of the El Garraf Nautico compete.

The day was rainy in Athens and without wind, which led to the lifting of the flag of deferral on the ground. The Finn then went out into the water although maintaining the postponement, but the Committee's effort was useless and in the face of the persistent rain and absence of wind the day was concluded.

With the Medal Race scheduled for Saturday 16, there are still two days of fleet races with a provisional classification in which Joan Cardona occupies the third square and Alex Muscat the ninth.

12 / 11 / 2019: The Majorcan Joan Cardona is third in the International Week of Athens in Finn

Second day of regatta in the waters of Athens that is distributed with positive results for the two Spanish regatists registered in the event. After the computation of the four sleeves contested so far, the Majorcan Joan Cardona (RCN Palma) is in the third position of the classification.

The day began with a swirl wind on the Greek coast and ground deferral for all the fleets that compete on International Week. As the parties indicated, the conditions were improving and the wind gradually reached the field of races to reach a worthy 10 knots of intensity, although with some oscillations in its direction.

This allowed the holding of three tests in which Cardona raised a 4-6-4 to its marker, while Muscat (CN Garraf) achieved a 5-5-11. After the fourth test of the program, the first discard was applied, with Joan Cardona eliminating the 6th as the worst result and getting into podium positions.

The provisional classification is headed by the Hungarian Zsombor Berecz who moves the Greek Ionnis Mitakis from the first position with a single point of difference between both and the Spanish Cardona to 5 points.

11 / 11 / 2019: Finn Class: Cardona and Muscat, face in Greece the International Week of Athens

The Finn class has only been able to carry out a test, dominated by very few wind conditions, on the opening day and in which Joan Cardona has been located at a podium point dominated by the Greek Mitakis Ioannis, the Czech Tove Ondrej and the Croatian Bugarin Nenad. Alex Muscat, for his part, finished the complicated test in tenth place.

The Spanish pre-Olympic team in the Finn category is in dispute until next Saturday, the Athens International Week race... the appointment, which calls in addition to the Finn Olympic class many others, will be a good way to ratify the work done in recent months.

Joan Cardona and Álex Muscat, along with their coach Diego Fructuoso, have done a great job in the last few weeks of training in Hellenic waters.

The Athens International Week will have a series of races open to all participants between Monday and Friday, with Saturday - if a minimum of four previous races are held - the final day (Middle Race) to which only the top ten are available.

Both Muscat and Cardona are looking for the square for Spain in the face of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will be put into place at the World Cup in Genoa (a test in which in 2019 they were raised with silver and bronze respectively) and which will be held from 13 to 19 April 2020.
