Pacific Tsunami Alert Group to Do Four Simulations of Communication Protocols

It should be mentioned that the forum for dialogue and coordination held in Bogotá last October aimed to strengthen capacities in the detection, evaluation, monitoring and dissemination of potential tsunami events, based on lessons learned and the state of art at the global level, with reference to the priorities of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2012-2030 adopted by the United Nations (Photo World Maritime)
According to the website Mundo Marítimo with great pronunciation in Hispanoamerica, the Tsunami South-East Pacific Alert Working Group, of which Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru are part, agreed by 2020 to carry out four simulations of communication protocols in cases of tsunami in order to verify the procedures established by each country at the regional level.
In this regard, the Chief of the National Tsunami Alert Centre of Peru, First Lieutenant Moaci Feraldo, detailed that "each country will take care of a drill and this will serve to have good coordination and improve the systems we have, begins Colombia, then Ecuador, later Peru and ends Chile".
For its part, the member of the Group and responsible for the Area of Comprehensive Maritime and Port Security of the General Maritime Directorate of Colombia, Marco Antonio Olier specified that this meeting allowed to strengthen the links between the tsunami warning centres of the member countries of the Permanent Commission of the South Pacific (CPPS), and socialize the procedures to establish criteria in the case of a real event.
Those involved in this interesting program believe in the importance of mass dissemination of information to reduce the time to respond to events like the tsunami."One or two minutes can make the difference in saving lives, after receiving information from the National Geophysical Institute of Ecuador in less than three minutes our system distributes the information automatically via social networks, website and mailing lists to generate immediate evacuation alert."
