Closing of a successful Rolex Middle Sea Race with a silver for the Spanish candle

The Podesta family has been part of the history of the race since its conception for more than half a century. Arthur Podesta competed on board the Josian, winner of the first edition in 1968. As a crew member, I would add to that title those of 1970 and 1983, before becoming a mardinore of the Maltese club in the 1990s. He would participate in each and every one of the 35 editions held until his death, in 2015. Today it remains a whole institution in both the club and the race.
The 40th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race again showed the attributes that make it one of the most complete and complex ocean races in the world.
The fastest boat to complete its 606 miles of tour was the Rambler of American George David, and the absolute victory was the Elusive 2 of the Podesta family, erected in real local heroes.
The Spanish participation was resolved with the triumph of the Inteman of Daniel Martin and Didac Costa in the Double Haged class and the second position of the Adrián Hotels Macaronesia of Daniel Adrián in ORC 3.

The Adrián Hotels Macaronesia, of the shipowner and patron Daniel Adrián, has achieved a historic second place in the class ORC3 in its first participation in the prestigious Rolex Middle Sea Race race, which this year has reached its four-year edition.
The race held in Malta, has had a tour of the islands of the Tyrrhenian Sea passing through the Strait of Mesina and reaching the volcano Etromboli, with more than 600 miles in which the Adrián Hotels Macaronesia has only been overcome by the Bewild. The Spanish ship has done so after the compensation of times in 5 days, 35 minutes and 53 seconds.
The canary team exceeded their initial expectations where they only sought to give their best version regardless of the result. After a race in which they began with little wind being of the last of the fleet, when they arrived to the volcano Estromboli they began a large round day by day until they were able to finish seconds.
The Adrián Hoteles Macaronesia suffered the break of the ship's electronics running out of data and several of its candles, when the winds were stronger and rabid, which led to 5 casualties of the 9 crew members, and they have now recovered. The character of this team, in many nautical battles, has led to a working podium.
Representing the Tenerife Nautical Activities Club, it is supported by the Adrián Hoteles and Canary Islands (Isla de la Gomera). The Adrián Hoteles- Macaronesia is a model Sydney 43 GTS, built in 2014 and in the 2015 season it went up to the podium in 8 of the 10 races in which it participated with victories in the Fasnet Rock, North Sea Race and fourth place in the Cowes Weeky its last season won the Regata Puertos Canarios, Champions Copa de España (Canary area) and Champions del Trofeo Infantas de España.
