In 1907 the people of Castro Urdiales made a popular subscription to acquire a large silver trophy, with which the winning club of the so-called Bilbao- Castro Urdiales Cruise Regata would be awarded... in such a way that the precious trophy would never be won on property, but that the best cantabre club or the Basque one to which the winning ship belonged... would gain the right to expose it in its wineries...
In those distant years of the beginning of the last century the most relevant clubs of the Cantábrico, were no doubt the Real Sporting Club vizcayno and the Real Club de Regatas de Santander.
