Aritz got on his first surfboard at the age of seven and from the very first point of view pointed out ways, although it was in 2002 that he began to get in line with the best surfers in Europe.

The Paseo de las Estrellas del Surf will, starting next Wednesday, be a new star that will bear the name of the best Spanish surfer of competition: Aritz Aranburu, who will register his name with those of former European champion Pablo Gutiérrez, the first Spanish surfer Laura Revuelta or the pioneers of national surfing.

The achievements of the Gipuzcoan surfer are counted in tablespoons. He was the first Spanish sportsman to qualify for the exclusive World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, closed to the best 34 surfers in the world. A milestone that, to this day, no other Spanish surfer has achieved... like winning the eleven times world champion Kelly Slater, with whom he has faced several times in competition and who has managed to leave in the gutter on at least two occasions.

2007 was a very important year in his career, not only because he won the title of European champion, but because, at only 22 years old, he achieved the goal of any professional surfer: to qualify for the Championship Tour, a real milestone in his career and in the history of national surfing.

The Paseo de las Estrellas de Somo was opened in 2017 with the discovery of a first star in honor of professional surfer Pablo Gutiérrez, former European surf champion. Located on the Paseo Marítimo de Somo (Cantabria), just a few meters from the beach, next to the Surf Centre and its skatepark, it is one of the initiatives of the Surf Competitiveness Plan of the Cantabrian municipality of Ribamontán al Mar.
