The Mount Real Club of Yates and the Galician candle are in mourning, because of the death of Piñeiro
Sad news that we were given last night: José Manuel Piñeiro has died... was communicated to us by his lawyer and was confirmed by his brother-in-law who was manager of the Monte Real Club de Yates and the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, Carlos Moreno.
José Manuel Piñeiro "Pi" has been fundamental in the success of Monte Real and the Galician candle in general, of the last decades. Faithful escudero of the great Rafael Olmedo and personal friend of another of the great, Alfonso Paz Andrade, embarked in 1973 on the adventure of taking over the leaders of the Baiona Club as "honorable secretary" of the Club, at a delicate time due to the strong debts incurred in the celebration of the Regata del Discovering.
It was the heroic years of the Yates Club, in which "Pi" amen of being in the rear as manager, also regateated and also frankly well... his first boat a Puma 23, but soon... in 1978 he acquired one of the 30 (formidable half ton of those years) that he called "Xeito" and who achieved years later to win the Count of Gondomar Trophy.
Then came a prototype of Andrieu built by Astafersa that would be one of the "Cutty Sark" of José María Lastra... but before the one that released it was Piñeiro: "Xeito de Antas..." already in his years of retirement of the races, I convinced him to take us out in a Prince of Asturias a One Desing that had left us Jeanneau... with his crew of the "Xeito" and with Julio Freijido as the bow... the "Superxeito" won the Trophy Prince of Asturias in... "in the same time as the one of the Purso of the one of the other..." he acquired in the Perri... "
He leaves us a friend, he leaves us an irreplaceable character, he leaves us an exceptional lawyer, whom we will remember "per se" with his pure taken with his left hand in a strange way. Rest in peace wherever you are... a strong Pi!
