After this initial step and after a conversation of Gandara himself with Don Manuel Fraga... the "daring" went to Santiago de Compostela and managed to excite Victor Manuel Vázquez Portomeñe with the approval of the president of the Xunta... Portomeñe was then the great head of state society Xacobeo... Javier Gandara and Charo Andrade convinced Manuel Fernández, president of the powerful Pescanova... the project began to take shape.

Despite the illusion the budget was approaching 700 million pesetas and the "daring" followed a forward run, convincing Bruce Farr, the number one, to design the Galician WOR60... from here on the story is already well known... the end was achieved a total success, even at the sports level getting into the podium of a Turn to the World, when its levels of participation were immensely higher than the current ones...

This last Saturday, someone from Mount Real was given an award... out of place... because the "Galicia 93 Pescanova" has already had too many awards... and did so without coming to account... in addition to which it was one of the first editions of the National Sailing Awards of Mount Real, then under the name of KPMG Peat Marwick the "Galicia 93 Pescanova" had been the star of a magical night at the Club that presided over the great Rafael Olmedo in those years...

If it is already canine to reward and reward the project, it is much more serious to do so without historical knowledge and without the support of the stakeholders... the holder, the owner, the shipowner of the project and the ship was, has been and will be the GALLEGE FEDERATION OF VELA... on a personal level the protagonists are undoubtedly and will be FRANCISCO QUIROGA, JAVIER GANDARA, BONIFACIO LOGARES, CESAR CERVERA and CHARO ANDRADE... and of course MANUEL FERNANDEZ DE SOUSA FARO.

The big sponsor doesn't exist anymore... PESCANOVA, the old PESCANOVA THAT THE NEW PESCANOVA, which is another completely different company... and on Saturday in Baiona, we did not see any of those mentioned... and we have even been told that Gandara did not want to lend itself to such dispurpose.

There are people who have felt very hurt about what happened, led by the GALLEGE FEDERATION OF VELA, and they are absolutely right... _ 93 PESCANOVA and not use it in pachgas, with total disrespect to what these men and women managed to do that is nothing but THE BEST PROJECT OF THE GALLEGE VEL IN ALL YOUR HISTORY... and I fear it will be many years before someone tries to get a little closer to this historic success.
