The Volvo Ocean Race confirms the Danish city of "Aarhus" as headquarters 2021-22
The Ocean Race will arrive in Aarhus, Denmark, in the spring of 2022, after the popular 'Fly-By' that took place in the city during the final section of the 2017-18 edition of the race.
The success of the Fly-By, in which the fleet sailed through the interior of the port of Aarhus and passed through a beacon in front of tens of thousands of fans, consolidated the popularity of The Ocean Race in Denmark and made Aarhus a natural choice as the first Danish headquarters in history for the next race.
Aarhus is a modern and innovative city, with strong links to navigation, as we saw when these same facilities hosted the World Sailing Championship last year. And through the talent of great young regatists such as Nicolai Sehested and Jena Mai Hansen, who competed in the last race, as well as veterans of The Ocean Race such as Jens Dolmer and Stig Westergaard, Denmark has been important for the race.
For The Ocean Race, sustainability has long been a fundamental value and will have an even greater role in the next edition. In 2017- 18, the race helped to promote a global movement against plastic waste, and a comprehensive sustainability initiative aimed at educating and inspiring millions of people around the world to make positive changes.
Aarhus joins the exit port of Alicante, as confirmed headquarters of The Ocean Race 2021-22... more ads will be made about the route of the race in the coming weeks.
