The favorites have given no options and have confirmed their victory in the third and final day of the XXV Illes Balears Classics, race organized by the Club de Mar Mallorca and which has counted, from last Thursday to this afternoon, with the participation of 37 boats from nine countries. The Cippino (Bermuda time), Marigan (Crab time), Argos (Classics) and January Sails (Classic RI) are the winners of the race that has ended today at the Club de Mar.

The categories of RI Classics and Epoco Craja have carried out a tour of 13.4 nautical miles with exit in front of the airport and after mounting a mowing buoy they have directed to Illetas; then they have made a triangle in the Bay of Palma, to return to port with a final stretch of stern.

The participants of Classics and Bermuda Epoch, for their part, have completed a longer journey, of 16.7 miles, which has taken them to the Sech Island, from where they have set their way to the goal located in front of the Club de Mar Mallorca.

The great winner of this XXV Illes Balears Classics has been Tim Liesenhoff's Marigan. The 1898 cutter has achieved victory in the Crab Epoch category in a clear way. In addition, the RCN Palma's rooster ship has achieved the first place in the three contested races, results that have served to note the title of absolute winner of this XXV Illes Balears Classics.

The Cippino (1949) has certified the first square of the Bermuda Epoch class. The Argentine sloop armed by Daniel Sielecki has not sailed conservatively and has again won the race to ensure the final triumph. In this category, the emotion has been in the fight for the second place that has finally won the Argyll (1948), a yawl armed by Griff Rhys Jones. The third place on the podium was the Joane (1948) of Felix Noguera.

The Argos (1964) had no rival in Classics. The ship of the American shipowner Barbara Trilling has joined its third partial victory in the Bay of Palma. After it has finished Corsaro II (1960), the Bermudian yawl of the Italian Military Navy, which has relegated to the third place to the Giralilla (1963) of Valle de la Riva.

The shipowner of the Argos, Barbara Trilling, was happy for the result and has assured that "on the boat we were counting the minutes and the seconds, the race has been beautiful and the best has been the end."

The first ship to cross the goal has been the Tiger Maru (1971) which has done so at 3.03 p.m. Despite its good performance, Julien Davies's team has not been able to overcome Gabriel Català's winner January Sails (1973) once the times have been compensated, but at least it has been able to tie the second position of the general in the classic class RI, whose podium has completed the Orion (1969) of Tiffany Blackman.

The Marigan, designed by Charles Livingstone, a member of the Copa América Committee, was launched in 1898 and is therefore one of the oldest race ships in Spain. In 1936 he was changed the crab cutter gear to a Bermudian ketch. The current owner, the German based in Mallorca Tim Liesenhoff, decided to return him to his original state after finding him in Oban (Scotland) in 2003, a commitment that took him three years of work. The restoration was carried out from the designer's plans.

The boat was again sailing in 2006 and since then has not stopped participating in the main races of ships of the Mediterranean era. The only thing that has changed from the original Marigan of the late 19th century has been its name, a mixture of the children of the shipowner: Morgan, Marine, Oceananne and Logan.

In the last 13 years, Tim Liesenhoff has become one of the main drivers of classical sailing in Spain. His last victory before the Illes Baleares Classics took place last June at the Puig Vela Classic Trophy in Barcelona and his next stop will be the Copa del Rey de Barcos de Epoco de Mahón.

The four winners of the first day have repeated victory today in the XXV Regata Illes Balears Classics. In this way, Argos (Classics), January Sails (Classics RI), Cippino (Bermuda Epoch) and Marigan (Crab Epoch) are established in the leadership of the one organized by the Club de Mar Mallorca.

The fastest boat today was Tim Liesenhoff's Marigan who stopped the timer at the finish in two hours, 13 minutes and 5 seconds.

This record has served Liesenhoff's crew to score the victory with a certain leash of the Crab Ease category. The second position was for the Gipsy (1927) by Ricardo Rubio and José Luis Vilar, while the third was taken by the Freda (1935) by Miguel Rigo.

The most connived race has lived one more day in the Bermudian Epoch class where the first three classified have been less than three minutes away. The triumph was taken by Daniel Sielecki's Cippino (1949) and after the Argentine team he finished the Argyll, a yawl armed by Griff Rhys Jones and the Joane (1948) by Felix Noguera. The Cippino is in front of the provisional general and in the second square there is a triple tie to six points between the Joane, the Argyll and the Sonata.

The Argos (1964) has shown that it is a safe bet in the category of Classics. The marconi cutter of the American shipowner Barbara Trilling has made use of its good rating to impose itself on the coast today in front of the Meerblick Fun 1957 (1957) of Otto Pohlmann and Corsaro II, the ship of the Italian Military Navy, which has ended in the third position.

The January Sails (1973) by Gabriel Català has won in the category of RI Classics. The Mallorcan team has slandered the Orion (1969) of Tiffany Blackman who has held second place and the American Tiger Maru (1971) of Julien Davies who has been third.

Tomorrow Friday will be the outcome of this XXV Regata Illes Balears Classics with a new coastal test on the Bay of Palma to which will be added the Latin sailing boats.

The premiere of the twenty-fifth edition of the Regata Illes Balears Classics has had excellent weather conditions, with a sunny day in which it has blown a south-west wind that was eight knots at the exit but has been increasing intensity to ten throughout the day.

The fleet has been divided into two and the categories of Classic RI and Bermuda Epoch have carried out a tour of 14.3 nautical miles in the direction of Cala Blava to then set a course to Illetas, those of Classics and Crab Epoch have completed a shorter journey, of 11.5 miles, which has led them to Illetas and then to a buoy on the island of Sa Porrasa. In both cases the goal has been located in front of the Club de Mar Mallorca.

The release has taken place on time and there have been no incidents although the Niji (2009) of Stefan Seuss has not been able to compete for a mechanical problem and the Row row (1987) of Marcel Carreras has had to be removed after the first beacon for a break in one of his candles.

The test has been quite fast and all teams have completed the tour before 4 p.m. The first ship to cross the line of arrival has been the January Sails (1973) of Gabriel Català which has been imposed on the class RI Classics. The American Tiger Maru (1971) by Julien Davies and the Orion (1969) by Tiffany Blackman have been second and third, respectively, in this category.

The Marigan (1898) by Tim Liesenhoff has won a strong victory in the Crab Age class. This cutter sloop, designed by Charles Livingston over a century ago, has taken half an hour of advantage in the goal of the second classified, the Gipsy (1927) by Ricardo Rubio and José Luis Vilar. The Freda (1935) by Miguel Rigo has ended in third position.

Much more competitive has been the Bermuda Epoch class where Daniel Sielecki's Cippino (1949) has had to fight to the last board in order to win. The Argentine ship has been imposed ahead of the Sonata (1937) of Jordi Cabau and the Joane (1948) of Felix Noguera.

The Argos (1964) of the American shipowner Barbara Trilling has been the best in the category of Classics. The marconi cutter of the New York Nautical Club has invested two hours, 23 minutes and 29 seconds to cover the tour and has obtained a rent of just over three and a half minutes in compensated time on the Giraldilla (1963). The ship of Don Juan de Borbón, now armed by Valle de la Riva, has ended second, while the Meerblick Fun 1957 (1957) of German Otto Pohlmann has achieved the third square.

14 / 08 / 2019: Palma Bay becomes the focus of the international classic sailing

El Club de Mar Mallorca acoge la vigésimo quinta Regata Illes Balears Clàssics en la que participarán 37 barcos de nueve países

Club de Mar Mallorca hosts the twenty-fifth Illes Balears Classics Regata in which 37 ships from nine countries will participate

Club de Mar Mallorca organizes the twenty-fifth edition of the Illes Balears Classics Regata, in which 37 classic ships from nine countries have been registered... the races will take place until next Saturday in the waters of Palma Bay.

The competition is part of the Circuito Mare Nostrum, next to the Puig Vela Classic Trophy of Barcelona, the Copa del Rey de Barcos de Epoco de Mahón and the Week of the Vela Classic of Puerto Sherry.

The participants will sail in six categories depending on their year of launch and mating: Time (ships launched until 1950) - class that will be divided in turn in Craja (trapezoidal candle) and Bermuda (triangular candle) -, Classics (launched from 1950 to 1975), Spirit of Tradition and Latin Sailing.

The winners of last year's edition seek to revalidate the title and leave, a priori, as favorites... in addition to the Argos (Classics), Rowdy (Bermudian Epoch) and Orion (RI Classics), proponents of the title, the list of enlisted includes winners of other tests of the Mare Nostrum circuit, such as the Marigan (1898), which was crowned as the best Crab Epoch of the Puig Vela Classica Trophy in Barcelona last June, or the Argentine Cipinno II (King of Mahnas in 2018) in the Victory of the King of the year.
