The provisional after three days of race shows maximum equality on all fronts, including three-class and four-led head tie for the minimum. the protagonist of the day was a wind with intensities in the 20 knots that tested the ability of the crews and left spectacular images in the bay of Palma.
The incorporation of the GC32 completed the grill of the 38 Copa del Rey Mapfre, which for the first time divided points among the 132 teams of 26 nationalities fighting for the title in the 11 classes. Compliance with the planned programme allows the number of tests to be achieved to apply discards in all classes (except for the non-discards GC32).
The provisional after three days is headed by Cannonball in Mallorca Sotheby's IRC class, Cuordileone in ClubSwan 50, Swing Cube in Swan 45, Natalia in Mallorca Sotheby's ClubSwan 42, Alinghi in GC32, Paprec Recycling in BMW ORC 0, Rats on Fire in BMW ORC 1, Soho Caixabank Theatre in BMW ORC 2, Vertigo Dos Texia in BMW ORC 3, Dorsia Sailing Team in Purobeach's Cuintch in the 80.
Today they all flew, not just the GC32 catamarans. The forecast pointed to a hard wind of a North-North-East component, which in the middle of the morning forced to increase ground deferral; an intensity of 30 knots in the bay did not advise to send the fleet to the water. The first departure of the day was past 14: 00 hours in conditions of more than 20 knots which resulted in a show of pure speed in the four areas of races distributed by the bay of Palma.
The Majorca Sotheby's IRC class keeps the three candidates in two points and changes their leader. The Cannonball of Darío Ferrari is placed at the front as an award for an excellent progression that has taken him from being third on the first day, to second yesterday and first today. The Italian Maxi 72 began the day with a second, he fired him winning and taking advantage of the minimum of the American Bella Mind of Hap Fauth (1-2 today). The Proteus, who left the leader this morning and lost his first sleeve by breaking a saber of his major, is now third.
Leonardo Ferragamo's Cuordileone continues to head the ClubSwan 50. The Italian ship scored the most discreet partials of the week (2-5), but the discard allows it to become strong in front of the provisional and to take six points to the best ship of this third day, the Stella Maris of August Schram, winner of both sleeves. The Austrian ship takes the lead for the minimum to the Cetilar - Vitamin by Andrea Lacorte (4-6).
In Swan 45 the wind day favored the title defender, who recovers ground to get to a point of the leader. The Porron IX of Luis Senís came to recover the lead by winning the first of the day, but a third in the next joined to the victory of the Swing Cube made him return to the second provisional position behind the ship patrolled by Paolo Bucciarelli. Third is the Fever of Klaus Diederichs (4-4).
Maximum emotion also in ClubSwan class 42. The provisional after six partials and a discard remains tight at the top, with two ships at one point. He holds the lead of the Natalia of Romanian Natalia Brailoiu, which added on this third day the same points as the German Dralion of Pit Finis (3-2 by 4-1). Third, five points from the leader, is the Nadir of Pedro Vaquer (1-7).
The premiere of the GC32 was filled with five tests in which the flying catamarans took advantage of the excellent conditions to fly to pleasure on their foils. The Swiss Alinghi of Arnaud Psarofaghis, the Omani Oman Air of Adam Minoprio and the Austrian Red Bull Sailing Team of Roman Hagara were distributed the victories in the five trials disputed. The combination of partials places the Alinghi (3-2-3-1-1) as the first leader of the week, tied to points with the Oman Air (1-3-1-3-2).
The BMW ORC 0 class changes its leader again, and there are already three different days. The provisional is now headed by the French Paprec Recycling Patrolled by Stephan Neve, the result of adding excellent partials today (1-2) and dismissing the sixth of his first sleeve of the week. He leads by one point the Team Vision Future of Mikael Mergui (3-4) and by two to the Freccia Rossa of Vadim Yakimenko (2-1).
The battle for the title of BMW ORC 1 has become a duel between the fleet's most laureate and still leader, Rafael Carbonell's Rats On Fire, and the 2018 champion, Ignacio Montes's Damm Star and Oscar Chaves. Both of them calmed partial (3-1 and 1-3 respectively) and tie with the application of the discard. Third is Fernando Chaín's From Now On (4-6 today), 4.5 points from the leaders.
The BMW ORC 2 class also shows an exciting tie in front of the provisional. The Soho Caixabank Theatre by Javier Banderas won the two contested tests and maintains the best performance of the fleet after showing an exceptional series of three first and three seconds in six tests. Discard favors El Carmen - Elite Sails, who equals the leader after dismissing the last test of the day (2-4), his worst result of the week. Both add seven points by 15 of their immediate persecute, the Riva Reno Gelato patrolled by Christian Plump (3-2).
The fleet's largest lead remains BMW ORC 3. The Vertigo Dos Texia of Antonio Guasch is the most regular in the class, and although he added two seconds to two partial victories of the Airlan Aermec of Juan Cabrer, he retains nine points of rent ahead of his rival. Third, at 17 points of the head, is the Tanit IV - Medilevel of María José Vila.
The Dorsia Sailing Team defends position at the head of Purobeach Women's Cup thanks to an excellent regularity that it repeated in hard wind conditions (1-2-3). The best of the day was however the Galician Federation of Patricia Suárez (2-1-2), which managed to scratch a point at the team of Natalia Via Dufresne and run as a maximum threat to the leaders, now to six points. Good day also for the local Helena Alegre Balear Federation (3-3-1), which follows third.
In the Herbalife Nutrition J80 class he continues to command the Solintal of Ignacio Camino (2-9-5), but the best team of the day was the title's defender, the Bribón Movistar of Marc de Antonio, which ascends to the second position after adding a quarter and two wins, and discard the seventh with which he started the championship. Four points separate both teams in the struggle to lead the classification phase, stalked a further point by the Garatu Group of Juan Vázquez (3-2-3).
Tomorrow the qualifying phase is completed... the positions of the teams at the end of the day will be the points with which they will face the final phase to be held on Friday and Saturday. Only the GC32 will continue to add points in a single classification. Thursday's program will consist of up to five sleeves for the catamarans, three for the Purobeach Women's Cup and Herbalife Nutrition J80, and two for the rest of the classes.
