The sailing sport has given many joys, not only to Galicia but to all of Spain... at the Olympic level so many... that it is the most laureate sport in our country, the one that has achieved the most medals.
But the sport machinery does not work without media support, without sponsors, without investments from the appropriate. In the cruise sail that in Galicia has its highest exponents on the one hand in the project "Galicia 93 Pescanova" of Vuelta al Mundo led by Javier de la Gandara in the sports, as well as by Manuel Fernández, Charo Andrade and Francisco Quiroga in the executive management of the same... and on the other in the "Desafío España Copa América" that had several Gallegos in command: Pedro Campos, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Touges and Luis de la Peña... and by club challenging the Monte Real Club of Yates de Baiona.
But these great, important project in which we were successful, were realized by the great environment, the enormous support of the media, the investments of the sponsors... perhaps the beginning of everything was in that legendary Regata Vuelta Spain of 1984 that produced an earthquake in the Spanish candle in general, and in that of Galicia in particular.
At the Socaire de la Vuelta to Spain that led the magazine Bitácora with Federico Arias and the Monte Real Club de Yates, a new saga of regatas, such as the unforgettable General Optica or the Prince of Asturias... came the television to the sail, the written media of great dissemination... and the fruit of it began to appear sponsorized ships, which radiated from frenzy activity to many regatists who later achieved great successes: Gandara, Campos, Zabell, Echávarri, Egoyen, Toro... emerged as professionals of this huge caldo.
But from a few years to this part the volcano is off... communication and therefore, the profitability for investors has been very weakened... and this is where Mar de Maeloc comes in to boost events as marked as the three chosen races, which have to be the beginning again of a contagion for the entire sailing sector. The good winds have reached the Galician candle, by the hand of Mar de Maeloc.
