The Route Marítima O Cabaleiro das Cunchas reaches its tenth edition, reinforced by the active presence of a good number of ships and sailors who have over the years consolidated, with their presence and participation, a journey known in all the seas.
The meeting with the tradition of Jacobea customs and the practice of sailing sport will start from the facilities of the Bouzas Maritime Liceo on Saturday, August 3, with nine stages ahead in which the fleet, which reaches 25 units, will travel different environments of the spectacular coastal landscape of the neighbouring country of Portugal.
After two days they will return the way back to Baiona, playing ports of the Rías Baixas in successive days like Cabo de Cruz - Boiro, in the Ria of Arousa; Portosin, in the one of Muros and Noia, in its further north transit, Pobra do Caramiñal, again in the one of Arousa, and return to Bouzas on August 10.
On this Jacobea pilgrimage, and during his stay in the municipality of Porto do Son, the town's concello will contribute to the transfer of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela to attend the Mass of the Pilgrim that will be held for this reason, being the one in charge of making the Ofrenda to the Apostle, Luís Oujo Pouso, Mayor of the sonense town.
The Association Amigos de la Ruta Marítima del Apostle Santiago a Galicia, chaired by Javier Grande, is responsible for organizing the journey, an appointment with tradition and the sea that brings a maritime defeat of about 200 nautical miles.
The route, which symbolizes the passage of "The Traslatium" of the body of the Apostle James, recalls the legend of the Cabaleiro das Cunchas, a medieval noble killed by a spear on the banks of Bouzas, succumbing to the life within its waters, and returned to it with the passage of the body of the Apostle, leaving the sea on the loins of his horse covered with shells, attributing the miracle to the same James.
Since 2010, the Association of Friends of the Maritime Route has promoted the initiative, joining Portugal with Galicia, to take the pilgrims to Santiago, encouraging the Compostela that is given to them in the same Cathedral, following the celebration of Mass and Blessing.
