"Tchin Tchin" and "Ai ama" winners of the Costa Vasca Regata - Horizonte Elcano

Getxo's departure took place after nine in the morning and that of Hondarribia three hours later... the race was added a wonderful rallye of ships that accompanied Juan Sebastián Elcano and that aroused a lot of curiosity among the people who discovered him from the different beaches of the Basque coast
The twenty-eighth edition of the Costa Vasca Regata, this time with the additional name of Horizonte Elcano for the celebration of the V Centenary of the First Round to the World ended by Juan Sebastián Elcano, was won by the 'Tchin Tchin' by José Luis Ribed of the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club, on the route from Getxo to Getaria 40 miles and by the 'Ai ama' of Antton Manterola in the east version... from Hondarribia to Getaria 22 miles.
The Costa Vasca Regata, the classic of the gold, silver and bronze whales, joined this tribute in this 2019 edition with a very special tour along the Basque coast with the two exits cited from Getxo and from Hondarribia, to then gather all the ships in Getaria on a unique sailing day that aroused a great expectation.
A coastal navigation was scheduled paying tribute to a Basque coast that was key to the success of the expeditions of the time in those naos that left the Basque shipyards, contributing great sailors like Juan Sebastián Elcano... the passage of the fleet through San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, about 12: 00, was very exciting and beautiful with a floral offering and an aurrezku of honor in the hermitage.
The winning 'Tchin Tchin' from Getxo, arrived at Getaria at 1635 hours -6 hours and 15 minutes., with the 'Gaitero' of Juan Valdivia second and the 'Urbegi' of Javier Larrañaga in the third square. The 'Rat Pack', 'Symphony', 'Akelarre', 'hang Loose', 'Aldabra III', 'Zuria Use', 'Maitena' and 'Aizian' were then classified. The 'Ai Ama', from Hondarribia, was imposed on the 'Kribi' of Juan Manuel Pereiro and the 'Andarax Bi' of Santiago Portularme. Then came the 'Masseil', 'Skat', 'Quant', 'Kia Ora', 'Haddock II', 'Tteiro' and 'Beti Aitxe'.
This 2019 sailing season, in addition to the impending World Cup of the J80 class in the Abra from 13 to 20 July, is also very special for the peculiarities shown by the present edition of the Costa Vasca-Horizonte Elcano Regata. It is a tribute, Horizonte Elcano, to which the four marines have joined and that it attests a component of navigation along the Basque coast, and another cultural that takes place in Getaria, Getxo, Hondarribia and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in order to give meaning to the figure of Elcano with this race and a fantastic rallye of ships, as well as with conferences, exhibitions, workshops, visits to historical boats...
