The quality of the projects presented and the excellence in their design were the general rating of all the solar boats and cars that took part on Saturday in the IV edition of the Solar Regata that organizes Marine Instruments, with the sponsorship of the Concello de Baiona and the collaboration of Coca Cola, Gadis and Tuypan.
Even though the weather forecast was not the most desired, finally the prototypes were able to sail on the beach of the Ribera and slide along the tracks of the bulldozer courts, powered by the solar plates that the organization had provided them, taking advantage of the solar rays that were being sailed by the high clouds that populated the sky.
In equal conditions, they were thrown into the water, following the indications of the exit procedure, to draw navigation rounds between the buoys that were flattened in the inlet itself or to follow the circuit mounted on the red tracks of the Paseo de La Palma.
The Maristas school took the first two awards to the Efficacy, in the ESO and BAC group. The Design Award was for the Barreiro College... in the Professional Training Grades the Efficiency was for the IES Rodeira of Cangas, and the Design for the Afforme Home.
With regard to solar cars, the first prize was for OPEN PO-10 and the second place for a regular of the Marine Instruments competition, Apostle Santiago de Vigo.
Marine Instruments is a Spanish company dedicated to the design and manufacture of electronic equipment mainly for the fisheries sector. 20 / 06 / 2019: Marine Instruments organizes in Baiona the Solar Regata... a different race

The meeting was presented this morning at the Salon de Plenos del Concello de Baiona, hosting its Mayor, Carlos Gómez, who was accompanied at the press conference by Francisco Pino, Partner Director of Marine Instruments, and María Troncoso, responsible for the communication of Coca Cola, who, together with Gadis and Tuypan, are the new additions as collaborators of the event.
The technological innovation company, Marine Instruments, opens the curtain this Saturday to the fourth edition of the Solar Regata, an annual meeting to promote energy efficiency between schoolchildren and fans by building solar prototypes.
In addition, as a new proposal and in order to further develop new technologies and their dissemination to schoolchildren, Marine Instruments incorporates in this fourth call a competition of solar cars, with similar characteristics and conditions as the solar race, but putting wheels on the designs.
After the brilliant success of the first three calls, Marine Instruments expanded the places to take part on Saturday, June 22 in this meeting with the science in the village of Baiona, which awards in their respective categories, the students of Secondary Education, Vocational Training and the already released Open class, in efficiency and design.
The final count offers a large number of participants, with more than 300 schoolchildren from 17 schools, who will participate in both Solar Regatta and Car Race.
The requirements of the vessels and of the cars are governed by rules common to all the participants developed by Marine Instruments and that the only energy used will be the solar, generated by the official panel of 100 W for the boats and 50 W for the cars, not allowing the use of electric accumulators. Both the panel and the auxiliary batteries delivered by Marine Instruments will be the only valid materials.
In addition, Marine Intsruments delivers to each team belonging to some school a radio control command and a financial support valued at 100 €for ships and up to 250 €for cars.
The jury will be made up of responsible for different areas of Marine Instruments: Francisco Pino, Director of R & D; Bruno Lema, Head of the Hardware Area; and several Marine Instruments Hardware engineers.
The places chosen for both competitions will be the Playa de La Ribera, in the case of the boats, and a circuit riding on the basketball courts, for the radio control cars.
