The Spanish Federation of Piragüismo confirms that it is aware, through its international counterpart, of the procedure open for possible doping of the Lithuanian Jevgenij Shuklin, whose resolution could reassign the bronze medal... to the ballist Sete Benavides, which ended in fourth position.

The technical director of the national federal entity, Ekaitz Saies, reveals that a leader of the International Federation of Piragüism (ICF) moved him last week that the oral trial of Shuklin, the Olympic subchampion in London, took place two weeks ago and now the Lithuanian palliist would have a 14-day period to present his allegations.

The Spanish Federation of Piragüismo plans to receive official notification from the ICF in the coming weeks, reporting on the development of the process, although the delivery of the medal to be resigned could take place between 6 and 12 months and would take place in one of the international competitions or at some other event chosen by the RFEP.

"The sportsman and his environment have already been informed of this news but we have asked them for calm and caution," says Saies, waiting to receive official communication from international organizations.

He concludes: "If the case was finally concluded with an unfavourable resolution for Shuklin, it would be a great news for the Spanish pyragüisms, especially for a sportsman as dear as Sete Benavides, who ended fourth in two consecutive Games and, even if he was unable to enjoy getting on an Olympic podium and receiving an Olympic medal, he could at least feel that justice is being done and that a medal that would finally be available to him since that Olympic end of C1 200m in London 2012."

Sete, belonging to the Nautical Club of the Port of Pollença, was fourth in the final C1 disputed in the Eton Dorney regatta field on 11 August 2012, behind Ukrainian Yuri Cheban, Lithuanian Shuklin and Russian Shthy, first, second and third, respectively.
