Rolex Giraglia begins with 273 authentic regatta jewels in Mediterranean waters

The Rolex Giraglia's complete sports program begins on Friday, June 7, with a short sprint from Sanremo to Saint- Tropez followed by a series of coastal races in the French bay from Sunday and until this Tuesday
For the second time in its history, Monaco will welcome the arrival of the 241-mile ocean test that gives name to the Rolex Giraglia, which will begin in Saint- Tropez on Wednesday, June 12... the race has already ended in Monte-Carlo in 2014 coinciding with the opening of the spectacular new headquarters of the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCI) in Port Hercules, which will again be the stage of the final award delivery on Saturday, June 15... the indisputable icon of the long race that gives name to the event is the Giraglia rock, which emerges just a mile from the coast of Corega and that it has to emerge from the very close to the coast of the city.
Born in 1957 to strengthen ties between Italy and France after World War II, the event is an inescapable event in the annual calendar of great Mediterranean races. An example of Rolex's relationship with sports that demonstrate commitment, excellence, accuracy and team spirit, and with institutions that personalize the highest standards of excellence, the Rolex Giraglia is possible thanks to the excellent relationship between nautical clubs of the size of the Société Nautique de Saint- Tropez (SNST) or the Italian Yacht Club (YCI).
The 273-boat fleet that will compete for the 67th Rolex Giraglia is a review of more than a century of history of navigation. It will include recently launched vessels along with veteran jewels such as the 31-meter Moombeam of Fife (1903) and the 27.8-meter Mariska FI15 (1908), both designs by William Fife... the participation of the 54.9-meter Marie's 54.9-meter-wide, set a new absolute record as the largest boat in the history of the race.
This year's maximum real-time winner is George David's Rambler, the fastest monocasco at the Rolex Fastnet 2017 and four times real-time winner at the Rolex Middle Sea Race. In which it will be its first Rolex Giraglia, David's team looks at the current test record, established in 2012 by the Slovenian 100-foot Maxi Esimit Europe 2 in a stunning 14 hours, 56 minutes and 16 seconds. If meteorology accompanies, Juan Kouyoumdjian's quick design is more than capable of beating that brand.
One more year, the Spanish fleet will have representation on the starting line. There will be no lack of two insignia participants of the Swan One Design circuit (for which the Rolex Giraglia exercises as the third punctuable test of the 2019 season): the ClubSwan 50 Aifos 500 of the Spanish Navy, patronized by Ricardo Alvarez Maldonado, and the Swan 45 Porron IX of Luís Senís, winner of the Swan 45 class coastal series in 2018. They will also compete for this 67th edition the Shipman 50 Moondance of Luís Gutiérrez Ramada, the Swan 56 Intrigue of Joaquín Verona, the X46 X-Meritde Tito Moure and the Fortuna 12 Ascata III of Yamandú Rodríguez.
