The last day of the Hempel World Cup Series Final that has been held this week in Marseille, France, has ended with the celebration of the male and female medal race of 470. Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez have been proclaimed subchampions in male category and Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero have won bronze in female category.

In total, Spain has obtained three medals: today's silver and bronze join the gold they won yesterday, Saturday, the Federico brothers and Arturo Alonso in the 49er class. To these results is also added the sixth position of Angel Granda in RS: Male X.

The day has begun with a deferral on the ground with a wind of just 3 knots from the south. At about 14: 00 hours the wind has reheated to 5-7 knots of a north-west component, but weather instability has made it difficult to compete. Finally, after 4: 00 hours, the race committee has been able to give a valid exit for the male class 470.

In this last race of the championship the goal of Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodríguez has been to defend the silver medal; the gold, in the hands of the Australians Mathew Belcher and William Ryan, was mathematically out of reach. To this end, the Catalan team has starred in a conservative race and ended up in the sixth position of the medal race.

With this result Xammar and Rodríguez have been proclaimed subchampions of the Olympic Sailing World Cup in Marseille.

In 470 female, Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero have also met the goal of maintaining the bronze medal of their class. The Catalan dupla of Canaria has crossed the line of arrival of the medal race in fifth position dating from the exit and marking at all times its rivals in the fight for the third drawer of the podium.

It should be noted that Mas and Cantero started the competition in the eighth position and were in the fifth square until yesterday Saturday, the day they went up to the third position of the general, a result they have defended today. The victory in this class has been for the French Camille Lecointre and Aloise Returnaz.

Jordi Xammar and Nicolás Rodríguez will defend the silver medal tomorrow at the end of the Olympic Sailing World Cup in the male class 470. The competition, which began last Tuesday 4 in Marseille, France, will come tomorrow, Sunday, June 9, to an end.

The Spanish team today won the first race of the day but in the second it has added a 23, its only result of two figures after ten sleeves completed and it has become directly its discard. Its main rivals, the Australians Mathew Belcher and William Ryan have secured the gold medal by getting a 20-point rent on the Catalan crew.

In the final race tomorrow, which is a double non-disposable score, Xammar and Rodríguez will have as maximum contenders the French Hippolyte Machetti and Sidoine Dantes, third parties classified with a difference of 11 points.

In 470 female, Silvia Mas and Patricia Cantero have completed the rebound to the podium of their class and tomorrow they will fight the medal race from the third position. Gold and silver are not within their reach because of the difference in points that separate them from the British Hanna Mills and Eilidh McIntyre, first, and the French Camille Lecointre and Aloise Returnaz, second.

For their part, Barbara Cornudella and Sara López have completed their participation in the final Olympic World Cup in the 14th place of the general of 470 women, a position that deprives them of competing tomorrow in the medal race, regatta reserved to the top 10 of each class.

The Federico and Arturo Alonso brothers today closed a week of high-level competition in Marseilles. It should be recalled that the Asturians yesterday achieved virtual victory in the 49er class and today they have competed in the "zero pressure" class's medal race, as no one could dispute them with the gold medal.

In eleven sleeves completed in fleet, plus today's medal race, the worst result of the Asturians has been a ninth position. In the rest of the races the Alonso brothers have always been in top 3, with five wins, four seconds (including the one of the medal race) and a third square.

Also, today, the Canary Angel Granda has competed in the class RS: X race medal and has met the goal of the day: up to the sixth position of the final classification. The Spanish windsurfer has started the day in seventh position and has managed to advance a box thanks to the second place he has recorded in the final race of his class.
