Thomas Goyard (FRA-03) today proclaimed himself the winner of the Windsurfing World Championship - Grand Prix Catalunya Costa Brava 2019 in the new and spectacular discipline of WInd-fire. The test has been held for six days on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador, in the Gulf of Roses (Costa Brava), in front of the La Ballena Alegre campsite.

Thomas Goyard has also been imposed on French and Olympic champion Julien Bontemps (FRA-6) and Italian Mateo Iachino (ITA-140), second and third respectively.

This result brings Mateo Iachino to the leadership of the provisional classification of the Wind-fire World Championship when he is in his equator, with two disputed tests (Japan and Costa Brava) and before traveling to Sylt (Germany). In second position, the French Pierre Mortefon (F-18), who was the leader of the Catalan test, where it could only be ninth. And third, the windsurfer of Bonaire Amado Vieswijk (NB-20), winner last year on the Costa Brava.

The first Spanish windsurfer in the classification of the Costa Brava test has been for the Puerto Rican Ramon Pastor (E-72), who has occupied the 30 position.

The good weather and wind conditions have allowed the World Windsurf Championship Gran Premi Catalonia - Costa Brava to be disputed in the new and spectacular Wind-fire mode to have today tested new competition formats with the view set at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

After six completed eliminations, sufficient to make the Costa Brava test accurate for the international calendar, the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) has decided to test with a field of races and exits of the slalom mode.

With this new format of competition, two other complete eliminations have been held, with which the test is already eight, a number that had not yet been achieved in the calendar of the PWA 2019.

The winner of the seventh phase-out has been - and with this one there are already three partial victories - the French windsurfer Thomas Goyard (FRA-03), followed by Dutch Kiran Badloe (NED-19) - second - and Croatian Enrico Marotti (CRO-401) - third.

In the eighth and final elimination of the day, the victory was awarded by the French Antoine Questel (FRA-99), second by the Italian Mateo Iachino (ITA-140) and third by the Polish Maciek Rutkowski (POL-23).

In the last elimination of the day, the victory was awarded by the French Nicolas Goyard, second by the Dutch Kiran Badloe (NED-19) and third by the Brazilian Mateus Isaac (BRA-767).

The test of the Costa Brava is the fifth of the world circuit of the PWA 2019, but only the second in the discipline of male wind-foil, after a first stop in the Namibian city of Yokosuka, where the French windsurfer Pierre Mortefon was proclaimed winner.

The tramontana, the cold, cold north wind characteristic of the north-east of the Peninsula has been the great protagonist of the first two days of the World Windsurf Championship Catalonia - Costa Brava, which, this year and as a novelty, is entirely disputed in the spectacular mode of wind-fire, until Sunday, June 2.

With wind rapes above 35 knots, the tramontana that has blown on the beach of the Cortal de la Devesa de Sant Pere Pescador has tested the technique and strength of the 55 best windsurfers in the world of wind-fire that participate in the Catalan test, punctuable for the world circuit.

Those who have been able to take better advantage of the conditions in the first two contested expulsions - one on Tuesday and the other today - have been the French windsurfer Julien Bontemps (FRA-6) and Tristan Algret (GPE-44) of the islands of Guadalupe. Bontemps, who last year managed to be third in Catalan waters, imposed in the first phase-out ahead of the Thomas Goyard brothers (FRA-03) and Nicolas Goyard (FRA-465).
