The European Affairs Council approved the new protocol to the fisheries agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Cape Verde, the signing of which is scheduled for provisional application by both parties next Monday in Brussels.
The new protocol, which is mutually beneficial, will offer fishing opportunities to 28 Community tuna seiners, 14 boat tuna vessels and 27 surface longliners, with a total reference tonnage of 8,000 tonnes... in this way its entry into force will allow the return of 45 Basque and Galician Spanish vessels that had to leave it after the end of the previous protocol on 22 December 2018.
The annual financial contribution will be €400,000 for access to resources plus €350,000 for sectoral support... the duration of the agreement will be five years, which will ensure the stability and legal security of the fishing activity under this important agreement for tuna and surface longline fleets.
