A week from the beginning in the waters of Villagarcía the National of 420 and with the European junior of 420 and 470 next, the Royal Galician Federation of Vela has organized a preliminary test for the 420 class in the waters of the Ria of Arousa. With forty-one crews from five autonomous communities, the RFGV Trophy has been a good touchstone for the two major challenges that await the Galego Vela Center.
For the Galician fleet the event produced magnificent results, with two pods in mixed category and the title in male category for the current world and continental champions sub 17, Jacobo García and Toni Ripoll (RCN Sanxenxo). With eight disputed tests and two discards, the regatists met with three days of great hardness and very variable conditions of wind (140 to 310), from blossoming to great differences of pressure, rain... Half of the fleet had come to know the Ria de Arousa thinking of National and European and found the best training possible.
Jacobo García and Toni Ripoll took the victory (in both the category and the general) by adding 11 points thanks to a series of amazing regularity: [7] -1-2-3- 1- [14] -1. Marina Garau and Blanca Cabot (Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa) sent after the first day, but on Saturday, with six races already disputed (the tests took time to start with an orange alert until noon), the Galician took over and in the two Sunday races they knew how to keep the distances. Vilagarciano and Coruñés signed three partial wins against the two wins of another Galician crew (Martín Wizner and Pedro Ameneiro, RCN Vigo).
In the male classification and behind García and Ripoll, the Puerto Ricans Nacho Dávila and Javier Mestre (CN El Balís), with 18 points, and the Majorkines Conrad Konitzer and Fernando Rodríguez (CN S'Arenal), with 38 points. Wizner and Ameneiro ended up fourth in the male category (42); a turn in the second test and an off-line and a break in the second day drove them away from the struggle for the title, but their sensations were good.
In female category, the triumph of the Mallorcan Garau and Cabot (2-4- 3- 1- [12] -7- [23] -10), third for the purposes of the general reference and which were imposed in the fourth race. They completed the podium Neus Ballester and Andrea Perelló (CN Sá Rápita) and the female world subchampions Patricia Reino and Isabel Laiseca (RCN Gran Canaria). And in mixed, victory for Ruben Orange and Lucía Calvo (RCN Gran Canaria), with a good series (4- [42] -24-2-5-1- [28] -3) and a partial triumph. They were accompanied by two Galician ships: Irene Martínez and Alejandro Ameneiro (RCN Sanxenxo) and Nuria San Claudio and Juan Álvarez (RCN Coruña).
