Mrs. Sofia has presided over the 50th anniversary of the S.A.R. Trophy Princess Sofía Iberostar, the most important Olympic sailing mallorcan race in the Mediterranean and considered among the best in the world, in which the generosity and example of key figures such as its founder, Jaime Tejat, and the Rear Admiral Marcial Sánchez Barcaiztegui, in addition to Dona Sofía itself was recalled.

The Queen has devoted a few words of thanks and congratulations "all those who during these 50 years have made it possible for this race to be carried out in an outstanding way in the unparalleled waters of the Bay of Palma, and who have made this trophy a national and international reference in the sport of the sailing."

Jaume Carbonell, who was in charge of the Princess Sofia Trophy in two periods (1988-92 and 2004-11), has addressed a speech to the attendees, in which he has praised the figure of Jaime Tejat, who in 1968, as president of the Tourism Promotion of Mallorca, "had the occurrence of taking advantage of the promotional value of a great sporting event to place on the map of the world the then incipient tourist destination of Mallorca."

Kim Andersen, the President of the World Sailing, said that "this event is growing every year thanks to the spirit of overcoming its organizers and participants." Andersen has also highlighted that in this edition "nine of the ten current champions of the Olympic sailing world will fight the race."
