Good work of Villaverde at the head of his team, with this media Gala de la Vela, which will be held next March 15 in the incomparable framework of the theater of Afundo in the city of La Coruña
The Royal Galician Federation of Vela has released this morning at a press conference, held in the impressive lounge of one of the most legendary and notable clubs of the Spanish candle: that of the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña, the name of the award-winners at the Galician Gala de la Vela of this year, whose awards will be delivered on the 15th of this month at the headquarters of Afído, A Coruña.
The president of the Coruñés club, Fernando Cobián, and the coordinator of Corporate Social Responsibility of Afundo, Fernando Filgueiras, accompanied the president of the Royal Galician Federation of Vela, Manuel Villaverde, in this appearance before the media.
In his intervention, Manuel Villaverde thanked the Real Club Náutico de La Coruña and Afundo for their collaboration in the event, which also has the support of the Diputación de A Coruña. President Villaverde also referred to the great moment that the sailing in Galicia and the outstanding role of our athletes "in each of the competitions in which they participate, both at national and international level".
The president of the Herculine Nautico, Fernando Cobián, thanked the Federation for choosing A Coruña as the headquarters of the gala. Cobian highlighted the "The work of this society in the dissemination of this sport through the sailing school".
For his part, Fernando Filgueiras, coordinator of Afección, thanked the federal and club station for the invitation to participate in this party of the Galician candle. The senior management highlighted the program to support the basic sport of Abanca and, in particular, the Aventuras project, in which "relevant athletes such as Sofia Toro, Iván Raña or Martín de la Puente share their experience with young people from the autonomous community."
Among all the awards to be awarded on the night of the sailing will be a special tribute to the two Galician projects that have participated in the World Tour: "Galicia 93 Pescanova" (93 / 94) and "Mapfre" (2017 / 2018). The project led by Javier de la Gandara, which was podium at the Whitbread Round the World 93-94, is 25 years old since his return to the port of Vigo, and the Galician Federation, which pushed him a quarter of a century ago, has not wanted to forget that ship built in Spanish armed and crew (mainly Galician) Astilleros, among which was the Coruñés "Chuny" Bermudez de Castro. So far the federal press release.
In the project "Galicia 93-Pescanova" had had a special relevance for his work, amen de Gandara, Francisco Quiroga then president of the Galician de Vela, as well as Manuel Fernández de Sousa-Faro then president of Pescanova, his wife Charo Andrade and the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Manuel Fraga Iribarne... and other essential in the project such as Bonifacio Logares or César Cervera... or the sadly disappeared and that has been one of the professionals of the highest level of the Galicia, Manuel Fraga Iribarne and all Spanish examples: It will be difficult to match what was achieved in that mythical "Pescanova," as it was a Galician-Galician project: the ship was built in Galicia (Vigo, Astilleros Armaría), the crew was mostly Galician, the sponsor was Galician as it is "Pescanova" and was supported by the Galicia Government... and as a dessert the final bronze, in a Regata Vuelta al Mundo that only resembles the current one in the name. To compare both projects from the perspective of their galleduity and success, it is not possible, while still congratulating from this website the excellent work of the "Mapfre" is these last quotes from the World Tour.
