The Olympic Fernando Echavarri received tribute at the COE headquarters, at his farewell

The Olympic regatist Fernando Echavarri went to the Spanish Olympic Committee surrounded by his family, fellow boat and friends who rallied with his presence his farewell
Fernando Echavarri was honored at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee for his career in the Olympic candle, a discipline of which the cantabrian regatist was fired by the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco.
Echavarri said that "decisions must be made in cold. I've been thinking for a while that to go to some games you must be 100% focused, and I'm with 80% on another personal project. The wisest thing on my part was to focus 100% on my new project and let the new generations be able to have that experience of participating in a game giving 100%. I know they're gonna do great. I know I'm gonna get excited when I see them in the races, but I'm always gonna be there."
After his words, he looked at his boat partner Tara Pacheco and was excited to say goodbye. The witness Alejandro Blanco picked up who was able to speak after the sound applause that resonated at the COE headquarters. "Fernando," said the president, "it is very important that you know what you have done beyond Beijing right now. You are the Olympic champion, the champion of the world, of Europe and you are a successful person, not for the titles you have, but for where you come from and where you wanted to get to, which is excellence."
