The Sevilla- Betis Regata: the healthy rivalry of football in the Olympic rowing.
The idea of creating the Sevilla- Betis Regata of Olympic rowing, is an idea that was born in 1960 by the famous Sevillist footballer Miguel Lopez Torróntegui, the goal of bringing the rivalry of football to the waters of Guadalquivir. By then in Seville there were not even the ships in which the test was disputed, the eight with timonel, which were and are expensive ships. Then Torróntegui, together with Miguel Muñoz Doyega, representative of the firm Molfort's, the first sponsor of the Regata, went to the football clubs and they welcomed the idea with enthusiasm and they each acquired a boat, being at the head of the football clubs, Mr Benito Villamarin and Mr Ramón de Carranza.
The first edition was held on October 16, 1960. Due to organizational problems it is no longer held after the third edition, opening a parenthesis until 1970. In all of these, it is worth noting the high level of sports of the crews, with the participation of the flower and cream of the Sevillian oar, with more than 15 Olympic remers (including the current Olympic medalist Fernando Citation President of the Spanish Federation of Remo), 13 champions of the world and many more medalists in the world and European championships, and about 200 members at some point in the different national selections.

Tens of thousands of spectators follow each year the Regata from the banks of Guadalquivir. The Event gradually approaches the half century of antiquity.
After the dispute of the last edition, the total computation of victories results in a wide domain of the Sevillist team, with 30 editions won, compared to 19 of the betic crew. However, in the last 11 editions, the domain is corresponding to the betics, which have been imposed in most of them, which with a generation of exceptional remers and having recovered the full support of the Royal Betis Balompié directive, thus equating to the directive of the Sevilla F.C. after a stage in which Manuel Ruiz de Lopera turned his back on La Regata, is causing the awakening of the illusion in the Verdiblanco Remo. Regardless of the historical palmaris, what really moves fans to follow and enjoy this sports event, is the Sevillian football rivalry extrapolated to a unique scenario, the Guadalquivir River and a test in which only victory or defeat can be found.
