The Spanish Olympic Committee, the Spanish Federation Surf and the Galicia Institute of Technology signed yesterday, Tuesday, December 11, a specific agreement annexed to the collaboration agreement between the three entities. This extends the one that was signed last March at the Olympic headquarters in order to promote innovation and research applied to sport in Spain in all its scope in models.

The technology developed in the ITG (Galicia Technology Institute) is the Flythings Surf, an innovative telemetry system that measures the force that prints the surfer to the table and the speed of the turning. Integrated with the television signal, it provides objective and measurable information for surfers, broadcasters and viewers.

The objectives of this agreement are, among others, to develop the project to apply it as a disruptive technology in the practice of surfing in Spain and the rest of the world, to develop the Surf industry in Spain, to provide judges and technicians with an objective tool for assessing the results and performance of athletes in competition.

In addition, developing technology is also intended to give the audiovisual media a new technology that enriches and contributes added value to the retransmission of the audiovisual content of the sport surfing in competition and that it is valued by the spectators in order to develop the sport of surfing in Spain.

The COE Centre for Sport Innovation is working on research and development of specific sports programmes, such as surfing, in order to reach innovative solutions applicable to many areas such as training, nutrition, medicine, material and sports equipment.
