Almost four points of increase in yacht enrolment between January and October

Between January and October 2018, 5,214 recreational boats were registered in Spain, 3.64% more than in the same period last year.

In the period from January to October of this year, the registration of recreational boats has grown by 3.64%, in total, 5,214 vessels have been registered compared to 5,031 in the same period of 2017. Of these, 1,473 are vessels for commercial use (nautical charter), which account for 28.2% of the national nautical market.

In terms of length, the most growing segments in this period are between 6 and 8 meters and between 12 and 16 meters, which increase their enrolment by 14.7% and 10.2%, respectively. The smaller length, up to 8 meters, is maintained as the most demanded and represents 89.2% of the nautical market.

By type of boat, the water bikes have grown most in this period with an increase in their enrolment of 14.2%, followed by folding pneumatic vessels (3.8%). Motor ships remain the most demanding vessels in Spain, accounting for 42.7% of the nautical market in the period under review (January - October).

The nautical charter, the rental of recreational boats, accounts for 28.2% of the total enrolment made between January and October of this year. In absolute figures, the registration of vessels for the charter shows a decrease of -4.2% over the same period last year. The nautical rental market, which experienced a historic break in 2014 (almost 60%), is consolidated and tends to stabilize.

The most growing length in the period enero-October 2018 for rental use are the ships between 6 and 8 meters (+ 12.6%) and between 12 and 16 meters (+ 6.8%).

For Autonomous Communities, Balearic Islands continues to lead the nautical market with a share of 20.37% in this period and a growth of its enrolments of + 36.33%, followed by Catalonia which represents 19% of the nautical market and which falls by -13.75% in number of enrolments. Thirdly, Andalusia accounts for 17.65% of the nautical market and has an increase in its enrolment in this period of 11.23%.

The charter market is also led by Balearic Islands, which represents 29%, followed by Catalonia 22.2% and the Valencia Community with a market share of 16.22%.
