Navalia echoes the information that appeared in Faro de Vigo, regarding the delivery of Nodosa to the Armadora Pereira of the spectacular "Argos Cis," successor to the famous "Estai," which was fundamental in the so-called "war of the fletan" of the last century... in the 1980s the widespread extension to 200 miles of territorial waters by the coastal states would end up causing the mooring of dozens of freezer trawlers who had nowhere to operate. Europe was not an option - the entry of Spain into the former EEC was a severe correction in quotas - and the non-payments would eventually turn the old Vigo Savings Fund into a powerful shipowner. José Pereira Álvarez took advantage of this situation to make up the fleet of the company he had founded in 1955 (Armadora Pereira), with several ships that was incorporated into mixed societies. Yesterday, thirty years after his last order, the same company and Pereira Alvarez wrote one more page in the history of the Galician industry with the reception of Argos Cíes. It is the largest Vigo capital vessel built since 1988; it has cost more than 20 million euros.

The fishing vessel has almost 2,000 GT in its 75 meters length and 14 meters of manga, with a design of its own shipyard and the fishing - the head of the fleet of Pereira, Alfonso Magán, is an expert recognized throughout the naval sector -. With the "latest technology" and a modern capacity, its versatility is one of the main features. It is smaller than the Argos Galicia (77.2 meters) and the Argos Vigo (78 meters), but it has more fishing capacity. These two units were killed in the same year - one in Freire and the other in Barres - and in the industry they believe Pereira is "willing" to repeat his feat. That is, to order another "short-term" trawler. In any case, the Argos Cis will replace the Argos Galicia, the former Estai, the protagonist of the war of the fletan and symbol of the fishing footprint of Vigo. "It is a pride that ships can be built in this land," Pereira Molares emphasized.

The shipowning division of Pereira today has 19 ships, and the Argos Cis will fish Patagonian squid (loligo gahi) in Malvinas. It will be integrated into the mixed society Jupiter Fishing Company, made up of the Viguese firm and Argos Group. This Wednesday's milestone now opens the way for a fortnight of new orders for fishing in Vigo, with the seven units commissioned by Nueva Pescanova, the six that Iberconsa plans to award, a 75-meter freezer trawler for Pescapuerta (in the study phase) and a 71-meter one that Chymar projects (the last two, also for the Malvinas). The Galician capital ships operating in this fishing lot have three decades on average, with the only exception of the Monteferro, also built in Nodosa and delivered in October last year to the joint venture Kalamar Ltd. The commercial manager of the shipyard, José Ramón Regueira, was confident that the Argos Cis will in fact act as a spear for the full renewal of the ships of Malvinas - even in spite of the uncertainties that aroused the Brexite process - in order to have more technologically efficient units.
