Mariano Soriano inaugurates the International Congress of Piragüismo de Aguas Quietas
Mariano Soriano, Director General of the Higher Council of Sports, will open on Friday the seventh edition of the International Congress of Piragüismo de Aguas Quietilas and the first edition of Eslalon, which will bring together in the Galician town of Catoira 300 participants from 15 countries in the most prestigious world-wide meeting around the kayak and the canoe, among whose speakers are the Spanish coaches Miguel García and Xabi Etxaniz, responsible among other successes of the preparation of the Olympic champions Saul Craviotto and Maialen Chourraut, respectively, who will close an open conference with all the Spanish clubs.
It highlights the presence of technicians considered among the best in the world, supported by the titles of Olympic champions to which they have taken their athletes, such as the Asturian Miguel García and the Basque Xabi Etxaniz.
Foreign figures, such as Ukrainian Alexander Nikanorov, also stand out, whose prestige led England to hire him to prepare his Olympic team for London 2012, where they achieved the gold, and currently holds him in front of the emerging China. Other references among the international technicians who will come to the Catoira Congress are Hungarian Andras Szabo, Ukrainian Yuri Cheban, Slovenian Jernej Zupancic and English James Train.
The Spanish Federation of Piragüismo, the Galician, the City of Catoira, together with the Faculty of Education and Sport Sciences of the University of Vigo, in collaboration with the International Federation of Canoa and the European Federation of this sport organize both congresses with the main aim of increasing the preparation of the technicians and future professionals who are engaged in this discipline.
