Javier Gallo's' Yamamay 'from the Royal Maritime Club of Santander is not a superstitious ship. With the one obtained in the 111st edition of the Copa Castro, it has already won thirteen absolute wins: in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018... after the first 40 canteen, the "Kenex V' of Ignacio Giménez and the" Gaitero 'of Juan Valdivia (both with 6 points), who completed the podium ahead of the "Despeinado' of Carlos Maidagan, the 'Akelarre' of Mauricio Guibert and the 'Maitena' of Mikel Emaldi.

The Santanderino ship was the best in class A, as was the 'Kenex V' of Laredo in the B, and the vizquins of the 'Ramper' of Jairo López de Guevara in class C and the 'Mandovi' of Ramón Zubiaga among the J 80 monotypes. Meanwhile, the Spanish 'Taramay' by Roberto Llano won in First Class 8 and the 'Blau' by Alejandro Ramos in the Open class.

The "Yamamay 'by Javier Gallo, once again the main favorite of the final win, is the leader of the 2018 Castro Cup, in its 111st edition, following the first 16-mile test held between Getxo and the cantabre town with north-east winds and a maximum of 18 knots. The Santanderino ship won in Class A, as did the' Gaitero 'in B,' Ramper 'in Class C and' Mandovi 'among the J 80 monotypes, while the' Moss' won in First Class 8 and the 'Blau' in Open Class.

The 'Yamamay' crew of the Royal Maritime Club of Santander, is again the great candidate to raise the precious trophy of the Castro Cup by being leader of the general and to overcome in class A the 'Akelarre' of Mauricio Guibert, the 'Maitena' of Mikel Emaldi, the 'Despeinado' of Carlos Maidagan, the 'Uso Zuria' of Javier Onaindia and the 'Rat Pack' of Javier Miguvarri. The Castro Cup, the race that unites Getxo with Castro Urdiales, is held on 8 and 9 September, which organizes the Royal Maritime Club of the Abra-Real Sporting Club and the Real Nautical Club of Castro Urdiales... as is tradition in recent years, two are the punctual tests with an online tour between Getxo and Castro of 17 miles the first... while the second Sunday will already be a technical race with an Olympic triangle in Castro Urdiales waters of about 12 miles.

The 'Yamamay' is the main favorite for victory, while the 'Go Blue', 'Mingus', 'Maitena', 'Akelarre', 'Despeinado', 'Rat Pack' or 'Gaitero' are also among the applicants. The schedule for the departure of both tests is 1 p.m. It will also mean the end of the 2011-18 Basque League of Cruises, which will be resolved between the first three classified so far: 'Maitena', 'Akelarre' and 'Gaitero'.

The Castro Cup is always exposed in the winning club of the last edition: the Real Club Náutico de Castro Urdiales if the winner is a candid boat; and in the Real Club Marítimo del Abra - Real Sporting Club if the one imposed is a Basque ship. This year the trophy has presided over the Cantabrian club following the victory of Javier Gallo's' Yamamay 'in the last edition of 2017. The Cantabrian crew knows very well what it is to raise the precious and classic trophy that the winner receives from a test that dates back 111 years. The ship of the Royal Maritime Club of Santander exceeded in the final general of class A the' Symphony 'and the' Maitena '. In class B, the "Gaitero' of Juan Valdivia was imposed, with the" Go Blue 'second, while the' Lasai 'of Gonzalo Arnal in class C, the' Taramay 'of Roberto Llano in class 1 Class 8 and the' Vissi 'of' Marcelo Fernández in class J 80 were the rest of the winners.

The Copa Castro is one of the oldest sailing competitions in the country and is the first cruise race (on a journey) organized by a Spanish sailing club. It was created by the Real Sporting Club in 1907 with a tour that took place between the ports of Getxo and Castro Urdiales. It is a unique case in the Spanish candle, as it is a trophy donated by a whole town - Castro Urdiales - and acquired by popular subscription among its neighbours. The disappearance of the trophy, in 1973, during the fire at the headquarters of the Real Club Marítimo del Abra, seemed to mark the final end of this race that has far exceeded its centenary. But the test was recovered in the 1990s of the last century. It was then the trophy itself, from which a replica identical to that donated by the people of Castro in 1908 was performed in 1999.

The first edition was called for September 4, 1907, although it had to be suspended for the imposition of the Navy Command due to a temporary notice. The race was finally disputed a few days later, without the name of the first winner being recorded for posterity. Paradoxically, this first edition predates the creation of the Cup, which was donated a year later by the people of Castro. The cost was paid by popular subscription. According to Juan Manuel Zubiría in his book of the Real Sporting Club: "It is an impressive piece of silver, a trophy very of the time." The trophy represents a sailor holding a buoy on top.

The importance of the race in its first years was reflected in the participation of honor in its second edition, which was held in 1908. The Royal Family, with Alfonso XIII at its head, took part in it - it was not his last presence in this race - and had a loving reception in the people of Castro. As a sign of this, the Prince of Asturias and the Infant Don Jaime were appointed that year. The first edition of the winner's record was in 1909. The 'Slec' sailboat, of the Real Regatas Club of Santander, and property of the Marquis de Colillas, was imposed. With so many years of history, the Castro Cup accumulates countless vicissitudes and suspensions. Among the latter are the logic imposed by the various wars, although they stand out for the successive disappearances that the trophy has endured. The first came after the Civil War. After the fight, the Club's leaders lost the Cup, which disappeared from the place where it was kept. As mysteriously as he disappeared, he appeared again in the 1960s during a routine cleaning of the Sporting Club's wineries. In 1973, the precious trophy again disappeared during the fire of the Royal Abra Maritime Club and is still in unknown whereabouts. Because of this, the one that is now granted is a replica of that, donated again by the people of Castro Urdiales represented by its City Council.
