The Spanish, who for a few minutes appeared in the official classification as a third, was walking towards the podium at the award ceremony when a revocation of the previous decision left him out of the medallion... in the end the reason was taken by Javier Hernández and the sixth medal went to the Spanish medallion.

The International Federation of Piragüismo has today decided that Javier Hernanz is the winner of the bronze medal in K1 5,000 meters in the 2018 Esprint World Championship after attending to the writing sent by the Norwegian Eivind Vold, who resigned the medal and recognized the Asturian, who was fourth, as "legitimate" winner of the third place, with which Spain raises to six the number of presets obtained in the world event during the weekend in Montemo (Portugal).

With this recognition the six podiums achieved by the Spanish selection of Pyragüism in the 2018 World Cup correspond to a gold in K1 200 won by Carlos Garrote; three plates in K2 200 with Saul Craviotto and Cristian Toro, in K2 1,000 with Cubelos and Peña and in K4 500: Saul Craviotto, Cristian Toro, Marcus Cooper and Rodrigo Germade, and two bronzes in K4 1,000: Paco Cubelos, Pelayo Roza, Ruben Millán and Iñigo Peña, and in K1 5,000 with Javier Hernanz.

In the previous days the Norwegian Federation and the palist himself sent a letter to the International in which they asked the highest international organization of the canoe to disqualify this palist as a third classified in K1 5,000 meters in the 2018 World Cup of Esprint, a presenter that would fall to the Spanish Javier Hernanz, to which they also asked to apologize for "do not give him the pleasure of being on the podium and receiving the bronze medal in front of the Spanish public."
