Felix Gancedo a regatist from another galaxy
Félix Gancedo Gómez comes to the world on September 18, 1940, a very special "read" is born that will become years later one of the most laureated sportsmen of the Spanish candle... in the predator of those fabulous silver and gold trophies that had to be won in three consecutive years or five alternates... he did not leave one alive, and today they are part of his impressive personal museum.
For Félix his second home was always the Royal Mediterranean Club of Malaga, and at 15 years old his aunt Maria Antonia gave him and his sister a snipe with the name "Marisol..." being his godparents in the art of sailing Manuel Pico and his uncle Carlos Gómez Raggio... soon in 1958 he took part in his first Spanish championship of fashion class in those years, in the snipe.
Gancedo was very clear about the British concept of "rolling & sailing," alternating as the most classical British, his complete formation as an athlete offered by the Olympic rowing, with the fantasy of the candle... the result of it comes in 1961 his first national title, proclaiming himself Spanish yolas champion, when he was 21 years old, and already with 24 also in rowing he achieved the gold medal of skiff.
His physical strength is tremendous... tells a great friend of him Franco Cobas, who being in Rome on the occasion of the 1960 Olympics, Gancedo asked those of the four Spaniards (where Cobas was with four other athletes of the Royal Nautical Club of Vigo) a match race in Skiff... and it seems that the Malagasy was faster than the Spanish Olympics...
But Félix loves the candle deeply, and returns to work and in the 1964- 1967 and 1968 years where he proclaims national champion of the modern then Flying Dutchman. These brilliant performances make Spain resent at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, in company with the Duke of Arion... in the end they are in a decor tenth first position.
The Grand Numa is born as a war name of which it will be the best Spanish snitch of all time, proclaiming Gancedo champion of Spain in the years 1969 to 1972, both including... his proels Antonio Burgos and Rafael Parga.
In 1971 in Porto he won the bronze medal of the World Championship, with Rafael Parga and the Spanish Federation selected him to be part of the "Fortuna" in Munich 1972, along with today's King Emeritus Juan Carlos and the Duke of Arion. His final position is ten-fifths.
The seventy are years of many victories: three consecutive Spanish snipers in the years 73, 74 and 75... two more Dragon... but the most important thing comes in 1973 when the 1973 Snipes World Cup is held in its Málaga... the following year the European falls in Finland and in 1975 again the World Championship in Punta del Este and in 76 the silver medal in the European Championship...
Montreal 1976 are their third Olympic games... a games in which Gorostegui and Doreste reach glory with their 470 silver medal. The Malagasy participates with Jesus Turró in "Temper" and gets his best Olympic classification: ninth.
Snipe titles continue to reach the Grand Numa basket: 77-78-79-80-81-83-85-90... with Rafael Parga in 1978 he first achieved gold in the European Championship, then silver in the 81 World Cup and already with Carlos Llamas bronze in the 1985 World Championship.
Anecdotes of the great Félix Gancedo there are dozens... in 1983 at the prestigious Week of Baiona (now Abanca Week), participated the Snipe class... the Malagasy achieved three victories in four races... being the chief judge Rui Moreira one of his great friends... the race was awarded a picture of the unforgettable aquarelist of the elite Rafael Alonso... and if I did not win the general... "
As a master's degree in 1990, the Grand Numa enlisted his name as world champion, in an event held in Santiago de la Ribera... the same year, amazing! wins the absolute European... Felix was number one, but not because of the simple fact that he won, won and won... but because he changed the 60 / 70 candle... he surprised everyone with his "car workshop," he surprised everyone for his work of tuning, he surprised everyone for a physical power beyond the candle until then... it is impossible to talk about the Spanish vale without quoting Felix Gancedo and his Great Number.
A few years ago, in 2001, in one of the homenajes made in Vigo to Cholo Marina that was unforgettable, as they met Cholo himself, the great Fernando Massó and Felix... he said that a few days ago he had won a classic race in Almería... neither short nor lazy said for the megaphony: "I have been very excited to win this trophy, because 40 years ago my father won it..." the very fistful had been the winner not his father. A real monster, a navigator from another galaxy... thank you Felix!
