The last day of the European Championships of 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17 that has been held in Gdynia (Poland) has been a marathon of tests to complete the maximum possible final sleeves before facing the medal race. The wind, which in the previous days was not generous, today has allowed the race committee to complete the programme of the day. Spain has obtained three medals, two of them gold and one silver. Diego Botín and Iago L.Marra have been proclaimed the Eureopa champions of 49er FX; Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco are the continental subchampions of Nacra 17 and the sisters Carla and Marta Munté have set up the youth European champions of 49er FX.

Diego Botín and Iago Ópez- Marra have proclaimed themselves European champions of 49er, for the second time in their career, thanks to an impeccable performance in the medal race of their class, in which they have been second. The Galician singing team reached the final race in third position and with all to decide, Botín and L.Marra have fought to the end. His teammates, the Federico and Arturo Alonso brothers, have not achieved the pass to the medal race and have finished the European Championship in the 17th square of the continental classification.

Fernando Echávarri and Tara Pacheco are the new subchampions of Europe of Nacra 17 after an intense championship in which constancy has been the key factor in achieving the silver medal. Today the fleet of Nacra 17 has made the last three sleeves of the qualifying phase after which Echávarri and Pacheco were already continental subchampions in a virtual way and the eighth place achieved in the medal race has served them to maintain the third position of the general. The other two national crews of 49er FX have not achieved the pass to the medal race, reserved for the ten best teams, but have signed very good results and have managed to end up in the top 20 of the competition. On the one hand, Patricia Suárez and Nicole Van der Velden have won 14 of the general and 12 in the European classification. On the other hand, Aura Miquel and Núria Miró end up in the 20th position of the general and in the 16th European position. The day has begun with good conditions, wind between 13 and 8 knots, but the arrival of the rain has led to the fall of the wind. Today the Nacra 17 have been able to complete two sleeves and Echávarri and Pacheco remain in third position of the general. In 49er, with only one contest today, Botín and L.Marra occupy the second square. The 49er FX have been left on the ground and therefore, without changes in the classification, the Munté sisters maintain the leadership.

Echávarri and Pacheco have settled on the podium of the Nacra 17 with 21 net points, one of the second general position occupied by the New Zealanders Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders; and four of the gold provisionally defended by the Italians Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti. Iker Martínez and Olga Maslivets, with two DNF in today's tests, occupy the twelfth general and seventh European square.

The 49er class has only been able to contest a test today, the first of the final phases that began yesterday. Diego Botín and Iago L.Marra, octavos in the manga of the day, remain in the second position of the general, three points from the leadership of the Poles Przybytek and Kolodzinski. In addition, the Spaniards beat the classified third parties, the British Fletcher- Scott and Bithell in six points.

For their part, Iker Martínez and Olga Maslivets continue to cut positions and are already in the tenth general, seventh European position, after adding a 6 + 11 partial in the two sleeves of the day.

The first day of the 49er and Nacra 17 European Championship, which is held from today Sunday July 8 to Friday 13 in Gdynia, Poland, has started with a loose wind and the results for the Spanish crews have been mixed. As the national coach of the class, Pepe Lis, explained, "the day has been really complicated, with loose winds, 5 to 8 knots, of a northern component." The continental competition will be held in Gydnia, in Polish waters, from Sunday to Friday

A total of nine Spanish crews will compete, from tomorrow Sunday, July 8, at the 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17 European Championship that will be held in Gdynia, Poland, until Friday, July 13.

In Nacra 17 the national representation will be in the teams of Fernando Echávarri / Tara Pacheco and Iker Martínez / Olga Maslivets who will fight for the medals in front of a fleet of 57 boats. The aim of both crews will be to place themselves as high as possible in the classification and continue to improve in view of this season's great event, the Sailing World Championship to be held next August in Aarhus, Denmark.

The 49th fleet will be the largest in the championship, with a total of 96 registered and Spain will be represented by four teams. The participation of the two crews of this kind that make up the national pre-Olympic team, Diego Botín and Iago L.Marra and the Federico and Arturo Alonso brothers, is noteworthy. Both crews have shown a high level in all the international quotes they have come to this year and their objectives are to get the pass to the medal race with medal options.

In addition to these two crews, the teams of Luis Bugallo / Jorge Lorenzo and Enrique Luján / Antonio Torrado will also compete. In 49er FX, Spain will have the participation of two youth teams.
