The Cruise Lines Association appoints Thomas Boardley General Secretary CLIA- Europe

The International Association of Cruise Lines (CLIA) has announced that Thomas Boardley will join the organization as General Secretary of CLIA Europe on 1 October 2018. In his new position, he will play a key role in the strategic implementation of CLIA programmes across Europe.

Boardley has experience in the port and shipping industries, and recently served as Executive Vice President of External and Corporate Affairs at Lloyd's Register. There he was responsible for boosting the influence Lloyd's Register in all its business activities, including the areas of offshore and maritime business, energy, inspection services and management systems, as well as the development of a new external affairs function.

Boardley began his career with OCL in 1978 as a trainee and has worked at OCL, P & OCL, P & O Containers, and finally at P & O Nedllyd and P & O Ports for 26 years. He joined the P & O Containers Board in 1996, where he was responsible for the merger of P & O and Nedllyd in ANZ from 1996 to 2002, when he was appointed Trade and Development Director of P & O Ports, where he led the acquisition of four businesses. Boardley was the European CEO of NYK Line between 2005 and 2007 and MD UK of CMA-CGM between 2008 and 2009; before joining Lloyd's Register in 2009.

Boardley's pro-bonus charges include the presidency of the Board of Trustees of Mission to Seafarers, a charity dedicated to the welfare of sailors, as well as the position of Visiting Professor at Strathclyde University. He is a member of the board of the World Ocean Council, the advisory board of the UCL Energy Institute & Institute for Sustainable Resources International, and the London International Shipping Week. He was President of the UK Chamber of Shipping from 2015 to 2016.
